Related question.
Do you need to do any modifications to put to change from 6L6's to KT66's?
I've never actually changed tube types before and want to make sure I don't destroy either A)expensive amp B)expensive tubes

...and, I think we ought to refer to the shellac amps as shellamps.

dude, don't sweat it. i just checked this out (the reverberocket works!) and they have them at triode, matched pairs for $37. that's a lot and all, but not like $100 a pair or something...

Yeah, I've come across those. Call me cynical but don't they look a lot like 6L6s? The 7591s I have are same size as 6V6s. Rewired 6L6s will work, but the plate characteristics are completely different. And then I still have a blown tranny. Oh well.

Bob/the Cheat.

yes the aluminum cases look very cool, but it is an unintentional ruse, if such a thing can exist.

I'm familiar with boogie's simulclass stuff. And yes, they have a patent on it, but I'm not selling my amps.

As for the two 6L6, two EL34 marshall, that sounds cool and it's totally possible. You could have individual bias pots for each tube, or bias for each pair of tubes. Also, each type of tube would have a different output impedance, but they'd be close enough that they should cause damage in any robust amplifier.

Wait a second. Have we lost all standards? Isn't anyone going to help this man out?

Sheesh,

Unless some one happens to have an exact replacement, then don't worry about it. That thing sounded good at one listening volume, but I'm glad that I have more power now.

Since my band isn't playing much right now, I decided to put our instrument amps to use. I bypassed the preamp and plugged straight into the power amp section. Now I have 100+ watts of sweet tube power per side. Oh yeah.

I have a stereo Rivera amp that I put EL34 in one side and 6L6 in the other. Since it was already stereo, it was a cinch, but it does sound cool and is definitely more flexible for recording since I can send each side to a different speaker/cab.

And this is about the

blown tranny

Actually, I think that your attitude about the situation is pretty good. I still remember the time I got that sick feeling in my stomach when I first blew a tranny and realized that it had popped.

But you're right - these things are going to happen. If find that if my equipment gets too hot and I don't take care of it, I am probably going to end up blowing a tranny. No need to make excuses or pretend that it didn't happen. The best thing is to head out and get another one. Your point about getting a replacement reminds me - for those who have this problem habitually, maybe it's best to keep a spare around the house.
