My desk has no phase reverse switches. Would I be right in thinking that I can get round this by soldering up a number of short xlr leads with the hot and cold connections swapped round at one end, or is there more to it than this?
cheers
Stupid question of the day..............Phase reversal?
2You'd be absolutely right in thinking and doing so. Just swap them and you reverse the polarity - easy.
Instead of short leads, you could get a long one and mark it. This way you save an additional connection.

3Be sure to attach sticky tape to them clearly marked "!!!PHASE MAGIC!!!"

5Hey:
This will work for balanced mic signals and balanced line-level outputs, but not for any unbalanced lines. For that you'll need a 1:1 transformer with the secondary wired backwards. You can also use an inverting unity-gain op-amp circuit, but that's a whole 'nother kettle of fish.

61:1 transformer I can understand
The inverted fish thing sounds downright dangerous

7If you have a balanced patchbay, this can also be a good use of any extra pairs of jacks you're not using. Wire the jacks together with the positive and negative connections swapped and you have polarity reversal jacks into which you can plug any balanced signal.
