Band: Brainiac
2about as NOT CRAP as they come. they played here on their final tour, and i missed it. wish tim taylor/brainiac was still around.

3Most definitely NOT CRAP, although I don't really enjoy any of their records aside from "Hissing Prigs," I guess "Bonsai Superstar" has it's moments as well.

4Anyone who votes crap on Brainiac is a total crap head.
Speaking of Brainiac, does anyone else think that a lot of these noise bands coming out lately are total Brainiac rip-offs?

Sourceless? Well, DEVO comes to mind, and not just for the Ohio connection.
I was lucky enough to be in a band that played with Braniac for a week on the side stage at Lollapalooza (sp?) many years back. It was in July and the days we were playing these shows (outdoors at high noon) were like 100 degree days... totally hot and humid summer days. Those Braniac guys all came out every day in their long non-natural fiber rockstar pants, long sleeve shiny shirts, vinyl wind breakers, and as I remember, Tim wore a feather boa! It was hysterical! I thought they were going to pass out with heat exhaustion.

6brainiac was on "grass records," goddamn, that was a horrible label.
i saw them but don't remember anything about it. i've never owned any of their records.
glad i could help!

7Oh man, one of the finest live bands ever. Hissing Prigs is a really important record to me, too. Saw em three times and the two that I missed, I happened to be either
a)almost getting molested by my weird boss that I worked for at a homeless shelter.
b)Standing ass-deep in snow stranded in a field waiting for a bus that wouldn't show.
Both events were not better than seeing Brainiac.
The other records don't hold up for me as much over time, but the two eps and hpisc are unreal.
Hooray!
If any monkey votes crap, they'd better have a really good reason, like briaiac murdered their family once or something.

8i'm surprised at people giving bonsai superstar the relative shaft. i think that album is brilliant, moreso than HPISC, although i do like both. i dunno if i'm way off here, but i kinda see HPISC as more of dark and creepy and broody, versus bonsai superstar which i see as more of a robotic monkey and a robotic puppy play-fighting with each other in a room with rubber walls and a floor covered with marbles. so you could see why i'd like that one better. plus i much prefer the production on bonsai, too. and the songwriting. and *for sure* the bass tone.

9it may be a strong view but i think Brainiac were the greatest, funniest, craziest and most clever band of the 90's.
so "not crap" they're "crap".

One of the only regrets I've have in my life is this: My old bands very first show was opening up for Brainiac in '95. We actually sort of crashed the show, but they were nice and let us play anyways. I was 16 and had heard of Brainiac, but never actually heard them before. We played the show and I stuck around for another hour or so while other not so good bands were playing and then left. A few weeks later I heard Brainiac and was totally shocked at how amazing they were. I never did get to see them save for a video of the show we played with them.
