1. VILLABRUT (I GUESSS YOU COULD CALL THEM "POST-HARDCORE" IF YOU HAD TO CATEGORIZE THEM. SORT OF SHELLACY.) - NOT SURE IF THEY HAVE A WEBSITE BUT I KNOW THEY HAVE A MYSPACE PAGE WITH DOWNLOADS AND THEY HAVE SOME MUSIC ON SOULSEEK ALSO.

2. NEW BRUTALISM (SHELLAC AND AC/DC) - THEY DEFINITELY HAVE SONGS ON SOULSEEK AND ALSO HAVE A WEBSITE AND MYSPACE PAGE

3. MY DISCO (BEST LIVE BAND I'VE EVER SEEN. THEY'RE FROM AUSTRALIA. ALSO "POST-HARDCORE.) - THEY HAVE A MYSPACE PAGE BUT NO SONGS ON IT YET. IF YOU'RE INTERESTED I'LL GIVE YOU A FEW OF THEIR BEST SONGS. THEY DO HAVE A WEBSITE AND A COUPLE PLACES ON THE NET TO GET SONGS.

DIE! DIE! DIE! (ALBINI JUST RECORDED THEIR DEBUT AND IT ROCKS!! THEY'RE FROM NEW ZEALAND AND ARE LIKE A BLEND OF POST-HARDCORE AND PUNK.) - THEY HAVE A WEBSITE, MYSPACE PAGE AND YOU COULD DEFINITELY FIND THEIR MUSIC ON SOULSEEK. THESE GUYS ARE ON THE VERGE OF BLOWING UP SO YOU'LL DEFINITELY HEAR ABOUT THEM SOON REGARDLESS.

form of rocket is definitely creating some of the most unique, rawest and funnest stuff I listen to. I've dedicated my username to a fine song on a fine album by them. there new album "MEN" is set for release in the fall. I've seen them numerous of times and easily the best live shows i've witnessed, all down to earth and really cool guys. ben their bass player posts here. definitely one of my favorite bands.

thank you.

haha! Gramsci did the last one, but "new music" threads are constantly "new," so I don't see why not (not that my opinion really matters).

anyway: some bands that have made me happy about new music (full disclosure: some, not all, I work for, but it's because I like 'em so much, really.):

volcano! to me, the most catchy band in this city that plays 'weird' music. Not an easy-listen, but great creative songwriting. Hilarious in audacity of songs, not laughability or schtick.

the Ebb and Flow cubist psych-pop from SFo. This band knocks me out. Great pop songs that eschew verse-chorus-verse for jagged guitar stabs, oblong keyboard figures and kinetic drumming. Great voices, too.

Shearwater from Austin, TX. the new record is sooooooo beautiful. starts out kinda okay, but the run of songs from maybe track four until track nine are just brilliantly played and recorded music. Drummer, Thor is from Swans. John's voice reminds me of Orbison sometimes.

Call Me Lightning. I hate post-punk and angular tough guy rock, as a general preference. This band makes me jump around like I'm 13 again, in spite of my own tastes. Great songs, fantastic live show. Lotsa melody for being so fierce. In the new songs, the secret ingredient is Disco. It's not dance-punk by any stretch of the imagination. The Disco is secret.

these are kicking my ass all sorts of ways.

Tree wrote:I strongly advise checking out Sicbay, two-thirds of which is represented on this here board. Two guitars and drums, Mpls-informed post-punk (I can't believe I just wrote that). Anyway, between their website, their myspace, and their record label's site, you can listen to about a gillion songs. A very fine band that needs to come to Denver.

HTH

Seconded, Thirded and Fourthed..ded.

Sicbay rules.

Scandalously few are aware that this is the case, but NoMeansNo's guitar player, Tom Holliston, is the best songwriter in the world. His most recent solo album also happens to be his best. That's my current opinion, anyway. I don't know what, if any, distribution it has, but it's available from reosymes@canada.com.
utterly impossible as are all these events they are probably as like those which may have taken place as any others which may have took person at all are ever likely to be
