WHO is the greatest drummer ever?

92
Milford Graves for the Sharrock records - completely triumphant and vocal and unique to the man

Corsano too for similar reasons, his solo drum shows over in the UK have been truly incredible and sometimes funny too.

Hann Benninck as well for the same reasons, just really human and funny and beyond the instrument into a realm where you forget the technicalities.

Chad Taylor is more of a "tech-y" kind of jazz guy but he absolutely whips up a shitstorm on the stuff he did as part of Spiritual Unity with Marc Ribot.

Got to say in the rock field - Arika Casebolt (spelt wrong probably) from Circus Lupus and Antimony. Fucking brilliant drummer!

Mac MacNeilly too of course...

and I'd take Meg White over a million wannabe Zac Hill and Damon Che's flexing their man muscle over bad math bands the world over. Meg does what's right for the band which is infinitely better than hitting the fucking cymbal bell really quick all the time like "dingdingdingdingding" - enough already.

I've mentioned Neil Turpin too from Bilge Pump/HiM/Polaris etc. Totally smoking drummer. Amazing. On the HiM shows trading off with Doug Scharin he was bonkers. Jon Theodore too, really danceable all the time, swinging and funky in any situation.

aaaand Steve Charlesworth from Heresy and a million other bands. I was in a band with him for a few years and the guy plays faster than anyone even now when he's playing stoner rock. He is so fluid and powerful I have to tip my hat. Just don't let him kiss your forehead, it means trouble.
