Is band " promotion" allowed in here?

I enjoy coming across new music on here. I do way more reading than posting, and I feel that most of the people on here are like minded when it comes to respect and tact.
I will admit thinking that people on here might like my band, but the thought of being a cheeseball spammer killed that thought right away.
I think a separate forum for it would be useful. you can visit if you want and you can skip it, too. I wouldn't mind finding out what you all are up to. based on the popularity of the "what band are you in" thread, i think this might be a popular forum.
I vote not crap.

Expanded thought - generally everyone who frequents this forum is pretty respectful and non-blatent about promotion. Would suggest that if the above idea has merit, a posting of rules/format would not be out of the question to prevent scenarions similar to the following:

"Hey, my buddy's band rocks and they're playing tonight at Joe's on Weed St. and they f-ing love Galaxie 500 and Cream."

"Hey you should check out the new Sum41 doude, it totally f-ing cranks"

Not that this combo would be unattractive to some. But I feel a more thorough briefing should be mandated, providing a nice detailing of who, what, where, when, and why. A little effort required.

the way i picture it, anybody would be able to say anything they want about any show they want, their own or somebody else's. even newbies who've never posted a single thing before. and then in this special new section, if you see a post from bradley, you might say "hey, that kid's been pretty spot-on with his recommendations. i think i'll check that out" or maybe see a thread posted from somebody who you've never heard of, who's only posted one or two posts ever, and if you feel like taking your chances on a streat-team-type plug, then read it. maybe it'll kick some ass. maybe it won't. i'm almost thinking there could be some kinda twist, where any links put up in this section, the thread would automatically include a "crap/not crap" vote... heh. that would maybe dissuade a lot of spammers from even trying to post their "cream meets jodeci" bands or whatnot. but ultimately, i tend to think that having a separate section would be enough to keep the site flowing as it has. if you're not the least bit interested in the prospect of being street-teamed, just stay out the new section. if you want a crapshoot, go read everything in it. if you want some info about a new band or a good show, from a source you trust, then go look at what Mr X or Mr Y or Mr Z have to say, those being the people that over the course of time in this forum, you've come to respect their opinions about stuff.

I agree w/ a lot of what already been said, but I wanted to add, this board is pretty diverse geographically speaking. I am in Mpls so there might be a great show at the Fireside tonight, but it isn't exactly going to do much good to me and the mess of other folk would aren't located in chicago. Likewise, there might be something great here and etc. I think people get burned out from seeing the "Show Tonight" threads on other boards (I know I do, even tho I do it) and I like coming here to get break from it and kill sometime w/ crap/not crap or kenny or studio/sports talk that I understand about eighth word of

there has been pretty minimal self promo stuff going on here and I would hope this board stays that way. I don't have any problem with people saying "I saw this great band" or "I heard this good record" etc, esp if that person has been posting here for awhile.

on that note: I saw new black in april on accident and they were great, everyone go check 'em out

totally agree on the geographical diversity thing. separate sticky threads for separate areas.

Shows to Go to : Chicago
Shows to Go to : MPLS
Shows to Go to : Denver

etc. that'd do a few things, one of which is to keep it clean and focused, you could easily look at only the shows relevant to where you live. you could look at what kinda shows are being listed in other towns, to help you decide where you wanna move to. you could look, when going on vacation, for what shows will be going on in the town you're headed to.

lotsa possibilities there.

I don't know about the separate geographical threads - why don't we leave it at "hey go check out Blah Blah sometime, if you can" and leave it up to the resourceful to keep an eye out in their local rags?

I know the New Orleans thread would be pretty dismal and not too many people here are on this board, but I would feel kinda left out anyway. And I'd get depressed seeing all the threads from other cities expand and knowing that I could not go to any of those shows.

So, yeah, generic listings to ignore or search through and possibly to trash talk street-teamers. I'm game.

I visit another board where there is a few boards like "Northeast, Southwest, Northern CA" etc on there. People can post topics and happenings to those areas with more city-specific details as they see fit. Works well.

Although on here I imagine it would invite a ton of useless info that has little to do with EA.

But then again there's alot of that anyway.
