In the office pool, I still had three of my Final Four teams in the Elite Eight. All three of these teams lost: Duke, Memphis and UConn (I had BC over Villanova in the Sweet Sixteen).

Dear Betting:

Why have you forsaken me? Do you know this could have been a nice payday for me; that I could have really used the cash? UConn and Duke only had to meet in the final. Duke had to win the game. And all I simply asked is the combined score of the final to be 155 points.

Betting, I made it so simple this time - I played it so conservatively. But you had to favor George Mason University, didn't you? You had to have LSU upset Duke, too, just to rub it in.

Regards,

Tony

P.S. I like Florida and UCLA in the final, with UCLA winning due to solid defense. Betting, you will probably make this happen because I have no money on the line, right?

P.S.S. You won't answer that, will you, Betting? You're always silent, and that's why I love/hate you.

I do not like the fact that George Mason has progressed this far in the tournament.

They are middling team from a middling conference that barely snuck into the tournament. Since then, they have beaten a few other teams that were in down years (UNC, Michigan State) or played really crappy basketball throughout the tournament (UConn). You could reasonably argue that Wichita State was, at the time of the tournament, the best of the four teams that George Mason played, which tells you everything that you need to know.

And it was really a joke that George Mason got a regional final game that amounted to a home game versus UConn. Great work with the "pods", NCAA.

George Mason, so mediocre team to "get hot" and win four games. Who cares? You are still clearly mediocre team that I do not like to watch. Maybe you are not so bad as the UCLA-Memphis game, which is maybe the worst college basketball game that I have ever seen, but George Mason, why must I watch you? So I will not watch you.

When it comes to the Final Four, I want a slugfest. I want to see the best teams beat up one another. I don't want a "Hoosiers" story. Gimme some horses, man.

George Mason!

People will apparently cheer for your mediocre team simply because they hadn't heard of your school before!

People like to say things like "that's why they play the games"!

So very lame.

I'll either be rooting for LSU, Florida, UCLA or the 1990 UNLV Runnin' Rebels.

Lose, George Mason, lose.

i went to George Mason University for three years. this is fantastic. they could be written off as a fluke all the way until the Uconn game. the idea that Uconn "hasn't played well in the tournament" as a reason for it not being a big win is bullshit. Uconn hasn't played well in the tournament but they were still the most talented team.

Lose, George Mason, lose.

as a former Patriot that is loving the number 1less final four and as someone that enjoys most of bradley r weissenberger's posts please allow me this instance to say:

Fuck you, Bradley R Weissenberger, Fuck you.

After what those hogs did to duke in the final minute, I can't not root for LSU.

When was the last time a Mike krwasygafbdfnsvhdfty coached team looked like it didn't want it as much as the other team with the game on the line?

I cannot remember.

I think this UCLA-LSU game should be a good one. Could not care in the least about the florida-mason game, but overall I cannot believe how level the playing field has been in this tournament.

I really don't care who wins any of these remaining games so long as they are as good as the others have been.

And yes, UConn may have been playing poorly and UNC and MSU may have been in the midst of "off" years, but Mason genuinely beat all three of these programs and has looked more balanced on both sides of the floor than any team I've watched yet. An offday or year for anyone of these three schools still means they're going to blow 90% of division 1 teams off the court without breaking a sweat. I don't think you can take anything away from what Mason has done.
