I am a sports fan. I would rather watch Friends than the NCAA Tournament. This makes me a minority. As it is, I will root for George Mason. But I am fairly certain I will not watch any of the games.
Let's all watch hockey instead.

12George Mason could be written off as a fluke all the way until the Uconn game.
George Mason was maybe just slightly better against UConn than #16 seed Albany.
And how did UConn do in the Big East tournament?
UConn was clearly playing its "A" game this March.
Hey, George Mason has won the games that it was required to win. No one can dispute this aspect of their accomplishment. They were required to do nothing more. If anyone else had a harder road to the Final Four, tough shit for them.
But they are still a boring and mediocre team that gives me no reason to watch the Final Four.
Fuck you, Bradley R Weissenberger, Fuck you.
Whiskerando,
You have said "fuck you" to me. This behavior is perfectly fine. I never have a problem with this sort of thing.
In this case, I have even less of problem with it since you are a fan of the George Mason men's college basketball team.
I mean, isn't it fun to see The Little Basketball Team That Could do so well? It sure beats watching any number of ridiculously talented athletes playing on the game's biggest stage, right?
No, that is not right. That, to me, is wrong.
Anyway, I have an idea for making the Final Four more cute/boring. Let's have George Mason play Princeton in the semifinals. Princeton is another cute/boring men's college basketball team that has been known to overachieve, too.
We should see about setting up this George Mason-Princeton game.
God, this Final Four sucks.
But I hope that you enjoy this George Mason success, whiskerando, which is magical to you and some others.

you're assuming it's a matter of a little team slaying giants which gets non-basketball fans to root for them while boring "real" sports fans. i won't argue that most of the people pulling for mason now are bandwagoneers that are cheering "an" underdog not necessarily "this" underdog but don't allow that to cloud the fact that mason is a talented team. all year they held opponents to low scoring games, all year they've rebounded their asses off, and all year they've done well. this is precisely what they've done in the tournament. how many of the number 1's would they have to beat before you care to watch?
as for the "fuck you" it was meant lightheartedly. in my years at mason i went to a single digit amount of games due to work and disinterest and this year i've seen a total of 0 games on television. i'm just enjoying my former school getting national attention, which coincidentally it deserves.

At this point, I'd watch George Mason play Grinnell College.
That's about it.

No, I'm not a fan of the Chicago Bulls.
However, I can see the comparison between the Chicago Bulls of the NBA and the freakish basketball techniques (i.e., "The System") of the NCAA Division III Grinnell College Pioneers.
For some reason, this Chicago Bulls-Grinnell Pioneers comparison previously hadn't occurred to me.
Go figure.

It's true. In fact, I've been down for a couple of weeks now.
You can thank Northwestern State for that.
Goddam Hawks.

20i think its somewhat selfish to make light of what george mason has done in this tournament just because you want to watch a "slugfest". if thats all you care about then why are you even watching college basketball? just flip on any NBA game if all you care about is watching egos fly. the ncaa tournament is the greatest sporting event in the world simply for the fact that george masons can happen. nobody on george mason will be a starting NBA player. thats not the point. the point is they are in the final four because they have consistently played very well throughout the entire tournament.
i just cant imagine the mindset of someone who is actively rooting for an 11 seed to lose in the final four. it just blows my mind. how can you claim to be a fan of everything that ncaa basketball stands for and not root for the george masons and bradleys of the world?
i don't get it.
