I will do my best to get there for this.

This is the best restaurant in Louisville for those of us who are not rich.

You had me at meatless hot and sour. I shall bury my head in the TARC website once again to get to the far-south-end of 3rd st. And I need some cheap lunch.

I just returned from Ramsi's Cafe on the World in the Highlands. This restaurant is good. Many vegetarian options, though I had a breaded pork tenderloin panini with cheddar and sweet onion/something else marmalade with a bowl of mixed beans. This was under $10. James is a good bartender, and he plays a mean game of hangman.

I meant to price bourbons at the liquor store across the street, but the bus was bearing down on me.

So great, the TARC transfer!

Louisville, your neighborhoods are inviting and your people are friendly, even to me, a quiet guy at the bar. I think I like you.

finally saw scott live with his heavy friends rather than just solo last week and it is indeed dynamite. summoning some awesome disparate sounds all in one beautiful package: queen, bowie, eno, cat stevens...i dunno, it's really amazing if that stuff is your bag. not heard magnolia electric co. but jason seemed like a super nice guy when we hung out one night. i'm sure it'll be a tight show. unfortunately i'm playing elsewhere that night...

this might be a handy resource: http://www.louisvillehardcore.com/shows/ or this http://www.whylouisville.com/events.asp

the band i do, wolverine brass is playing the 31st and the 1st as well...if you're into the noisier side of life, we've got ex members of the national acrobat, lords, elliott, four fifty six, and parlour...

I am into lots of things, especially when they are live.

I'll see you there on the 31st.

I just got a bike--the guy at 1st st bikes sold me an ancient used Nishiki (which must weigh 40 lbs, but hey, steel is real and all that), and will buy it back for $10 less on Saturday. A fine deal. The city is suddenly smaller.

So I'll be the sweaty guy with the big bag on his back. Say hi.

Apl4eris: Salut! Your taste in bourbon is right on.

Wow! Lots of great suggestions in this thread. I've lived here most of my life (except for a few years living in Lexington) and I'm not familiar with a lot of the places mentioned. I definitely have to "third" the suggestion on VIETNAM KITCHEN. Best Asian food in town, very vegetarian friendly (for those who happen to be veggies) and the owner is a real nice guy as well.
If you are down for some record shopping you might also want to check out HIGHLAND RECORDS. It's a small shop on Bardstown Rd that only sells vinyl. You probably won't find anything too obscure, but its worth going to if you have the time. The owner keeps odd hours so I recommend calling first. They are located next to a cell phone dealer (NEXTEL, I think) and if you are coming from around downtown it will be on your left after you pass an indian grocery, LEATHERHEAD, the EAGLE ARMY NAVY surplus shop, and GRATEFUL THREADS.

Its fairly new and I haven't been there yet, but the FRAZIER HISTORICAL ARMS MUSEUM (downtown) is supposed to be pretty cool, if you have an interest in that sort of thing.

That's cool you went to RAMSI's one of my closest friends works as a cook there.

I forgot to add....

If you are looking for someplace to go hike, look around, take pictures, etc, you may want to check out CAVE HILL CEMETARY. Its Louisville's largest cemetary, dating back to the 1840s (it was farm land prior to that time). Its filled with lots of impressive architecture, many exotic trees, civil war memorial, and an 18th century period cabin. Just a nice tranquil place to visit, especially this time of year. Its open until 4:30 pm daily, and the main entrance is located at the intersection of CHEROKEE ROAD and BAXTER AVENUE. There is a huge archway, its pretty hard to miss.

If you are into comic books, collectible toys (Star Wars, GI Joe, Transformers, Spawn, etc), or anime, you may want to check out GREAT ESCAPE. Its located on BARDSTOWN RD across from the KROGER. They also carry used CDs, vinyl, VHS, and DVDs.

Enjoy your stay!
