I posted a bunch of shit that I'd still highly recommend in the thread refrenced earlier.
Here's some other new stuff I like a lot -
Deathspell Omega- Dizzying and awesome. I've got Kenose. It's got 3 songs, each about 10 minutes long and 150bpm. They go from one thing to the next, to the next, to the next. Some of the parts they hit are really rocking.
Anaal Nathrakh- I think they're still two guys - a singer, a guy who plays everything else and a drum machine. Really fuzzed out but every song is almost kind of catchy. Great "I fucking hate you" lyrics.
Ludicra - San Fransican, I think. Female fronted US black metal stuff. Some higher chorus vocals, lots more "vokills" and some hectic, swirly song structures. Better recorded than most black metal.
Baroness - Like Mastodon, but good. They're going on tour soon; see them at all costs. They've got a little bit of the South in their great, revved up power machine.
Tides - Longer, mid tempo stuff with song structures that slowly develop. For fans of the Pelican/Isis world.
Monarch - French super doom metal outfit, everything's long and slow with these kids. The three songs that I've heard of theirs (which take up one double disc release) all end with about 2 minutes of taco riffs, all the more powerful due to the 25 minute preceding build up.
Boris- They've been written about elsewhere in this forum. My two favorite Boris records are Heavy Rocks (nitro Stooges kinda stuff) and Feedbacker (a 35 minute epic). Excellent live.
Gorgoroth - More mega-Satanic death/black/misanthropic metal. Very good songs layered under lots and lots of distortion, blast beats and screams about how awesome the Dark One is.
As always, look to the West for metal. That is, regularly check out the
Aquarius Records website; they're the masters.
