My Friend, Ben played drums for O'Fays, a two-piece keys and drums project with Abraham of Baby Teeth/Bobby Conn band. He is a terrible drummer. However, it works spectacularly for the songs. i don't think the band would've been as great as they were had he not been maniacally flailing and whacking the drums. God-Damn was that band great. I'll try to upload some live stuff to the ea account.
Ben's crappy drums, totally Not Crap. Salut!

Bad drummers!
32Especially on the soundtrack to the motion picture Tarzan.

33Ha! Yeah, I know... I just thought that link I put up was pretty hilarious (the bio is a riot). I'll bet Los Angeles Jason Harvey is a pretty shitty drummer.
Bad drummers!
34Ringo is (was?) a great drummer... does just what is called for, then leads with the wrong hand so his fills are his alone... very taseful, subtly unique as a drummer. That said, I think McCartney may be an even better drummer than Ringo. His drumming on Beatles tracks and his early solo stuff is great and oddly unique.
Bad drummers!
35phil collins played with john cale right?

'Ham once described Ben to me as having "good drum style." The then stated clearly "I said good drum style... but that doesn't mean he's a good drummer."
Ben "the Ayatollah" has drum style that is reminiscent of this guy:
Faiz, do you know about the Sprinkes, with Ben and Karl Tupper? Ran into ben at the supermarket for the first time in like a year, I think they're supposed to play the hideout this month for some kind of benefit... if so, I'm there.

this is true. playing to the song is a huge factor in quality.
kerble is right.

38Whoever the drummer is from Silver Mt. Zion. For some reason, the beats are just so predictable and boring. Its the whole "First thought, best thought" thing. Most of those Godspeed, Silver Mt Zion, Do Make Say Think type bands... etc all have so much space for good drumming in their songs but somehow im always let down. Not that they should fill constantly, but Im never bored by the Jim White approach.

I agree, I am never bored by Jim White's drumming.... he is sort of messy, sort of haphazard, but in a very musical way... I really like his drumming whoever he is playing with.
