Well, i already looked there to get some reviews of the speaker. But i wanted to know if anyone has already seen, heard or played a celestion "cabinet". I tried a friends Marshall cab, loaded with Greenbacks and that sounded really good. When sound is mainly produced by the speakers, the Celestion Cab shouldn´t sound worse.
It´s such a fine line between stupid and clever.

The cabinet construction for a guitar speaker cab is far less important than the quality of the speakers. Assuming the thing isn't rattling and falling apart, it should sound the same as a marshall of the same era. One thing about the celestion g12m's from that era, is that even though they are rated at 25 watts each, they are somewhat delicate. Don't forget that pretty much any "100 watt" head (especially those using el34 or kt88 tubes) will put out far more than 100 watts when overdriven. Also, with speakers of that vintage you should make sure that the paper and glue parts are still in tact.

Thanx...

I am going to pick the cab up tomorrow. I also mailed the guys at Celestion about this cab, and they assured me that never the company has never built guitar cabinets at any time in their history. They do provide Celestion logo badges so that manufacturers can advertise that their cab uses their speakers. Could be that the seller tried to kid me, could as well be that he just doesn´t know any better.
Anyway, if the speakers are okay i don´t really care much.

It's easy to determine the actual year of manufacture for Celestion speakers, they have a code on them and the Celestion web site has the key to it.
I recently purchased an excellent sounding Carlsbro combo with 1970 vintage "greenbacks" in it.
I use re-issue "greenbacks" in my Sound City cabinet, they hold up well to the power of the '72 Marshall Super Lead 100 head that drives it. The speakers are now over 15 years old and have been cranked up to almost maximum with no problems.

Celestion never made cabinets, you should tell this clown. It could be any of a number of cheap cabinets. Maybe even a Mitchell.
