shows can be so tedious it's ridiculous.

i'm all for the occasional dose of otherness, but sometimes it's too much, straining to enjoy the music amidst a huge, distracting crowd of people. afterall, i'm there for the band, not the chatter between (if not also during) sets.

but crowds can be all right. every now and then i have the distinct feeling i'm among kindred spirits, and that the presence of other people is actually enhancing the music somehow, lending the overall experience more energy and consequence. when it happens, this a beautiful thing.

You know what? You're right! Thank you Eksvplot for this insightful comment. I had forgotten about that feeling of "This show is amazing and we're all witnessing it together!" Very cool, even if you're fighting to see the stage.

I saw Isis on the weekend and the crowd in the pit was pretty good not too many assholes. But i was sitting on the balcony and it was horrible, chair vultures everywhere... i decided not to get a drink because im pretty sure it would just end up being a huge hassle for my friends... fighting drunken morrons for seat back isn't fun.

yeah, it may be once in a blue moon... but when it happens, IT HAPPENS.

same thing with seeing movies in public. sometimes it's really alienating in the theatre. other times you walk out and feel like a million bucks, then look around at the other people exiting, and thank yourself for having the wherewithal to be out and about.

Sorry.

Though usually I'm the tall, big person who has been holding a spot all evening, so fuck you if you're gonna take my spot.

Unless you are quite a bit shorter than me. Then you can have it.

this is always tough. i'm 6'6" and my wife is 5'2". there are very few places that we can stand where she can see and i'm not blocking all the other short people...
also, i always wind up being the big guy between the people who want to mosh (not me) and those who want to find a big guy to hide behind so they don't get hit. this can easily ruin a show for me or force me to move back...
