They opened for Henry Rollins when I was in high school and they were just starting, I jumped on the stage, as was pretty common in those days...before I can jump off, the singer runs up and screams 'Get off my stage you fucking stoner!' and punches me right in the face. To this day I wonder why he called me a stoner, I had short hair and was wearing a nice shirt and wasn't stoned. Funny story, later that same night Mr. Rollins choked and pretty much body slammed the other kid I was there with for doing the same thing. Ah, the good ol days.

I saw Rollins play with Cypress Hill and the Beasties... Needless to say, a lot of gansta types thought he was a shit head. So some rap-gansta threw his shoe at Hank... Bad move!

He coiled up his mic, and maybe 10 minutes later, he flailed it at the same kid, wacking him in the most wicked medeival way! And then went off on him, saying he was shit, his parents were shit, and everything like that. He's probably right too...

Is it any wonder that I now attend art rock festivals? The worst thing a fan will do there is fart. Unicorns aren't very violent at all. Opinionated, yes.

aenima: not crap. i love how this album sounds. i really like how well written some of the songs are (i mean guys in tool arent pro-trained musicians, or maybe they are but were trained very poorly, with the excpetion of the drummer, but they can write a long song that does not bore me.. and i like their big dumb heavily distorted powerchords riffs). i like bill hicks. i like this album.

lateralus: i agree with the guy who said the drums sound like shit, such a shame cuz it all sounded so good when i saw them live...btw their dummer uses the biggest drumkit i have ever seen.

btw: i really can;t see why so many people puts them in this crappy not so-nu-by-now metal legaue, they sound nothing like lets say korn.

Ok...I'm sure that there are others on here that have heard the new album. So I'm curious what your reaction is to it. Personally...I'm going to listen to it for a little while longer before I form my opinion.

Anyone else want to give their thoughts on it though?

I gotta say that in the last 10-15 years, there has been so much CRAP, that there are a bunch of "least-of-all-evils" that get NOT CRAP status for being not as crappy. They had an interesting take on rock during the grunge era, and they had some pretty good videos. They can't help that their imitators have spawned one of the most destitute eras of rock. I vote NOT CRAP.

I can't stand the singer in this band. If there were a 'weakest link' on Tool, it is the singer. Whatever.

I swear someone told me that they recorded a whole album using mostly SM58s.

I don't know if that's true or not though. Anyone know the story on that?

I liked Undertow a lot at the time. Saw them in Newcastle at the time and enjoyed it. Haven't bothered with them since. But not crap for what I know.

I sometimes fear a whole generation of rock fans is waisted on bands like this.

I have heard 2 of their albums, Opiate and Lateralus.

The one good thing about hearing these albums is that when someone asks me if I like Tool, I can say "No, I think they're fucking shit."
