For me, the first Fugazi EP has to be number one due to the gold star "historical context" bonus (You guys are too lazy with your "13 Songs" CDs!!).

Minor Threat and the cult of Ian Mackaye still fresh in too many punks minds, waiting for Minor Threat 2, and then that appears. I know Dischord records was already shifting anyway by that point, but the expectations heaped on the main protagonist were stifling.

That opening bass line to Waiting Room stirs emotions in me every time, even now, 18 years later. A truly awesome opener with no equal.

But as mentioned before by others, the songwriting was yet to evolve, and I remember being utterly disappointed with Margin Walker, only to be swept along again by Repeater. And then let down again by Steady Diet. At this point, I remember thinking "fuck fugazi and their inconsistency" and Killtaker, Red Medicine and End Hits all got a bit blurred. Instrument I can take or leave, but The Argument brought them right back on track for me, perhaps because I'd become so indifferent to them.

Having said that, I always buy Fugazi albums on their release, and I always see them live where possible. May 1992 - Brixton Academy with Shudder to Think, Leatherface and The Jesus Lizard was always a bit of a classic.

Anyway, fuck me and my self-indulgent opinions.

this part makes more musical sense if you switch the bassline and guitar part. just one man's opinion.

yeah i know. i was just pointing it out.

it was a change of the typical bass/guitar dynamic. a lovely thing. and the first song on the first album.

They're all good but I don't enjoy End Hits as much as the others. They're all Fugazi records, so they're all up to Fugazi quality. I'd put Repeater first on my rank, but only because it's the one I heard first.
