Hello,

I've decided that I would like to get hold of a Shure SM7 microphone. The cheapest price I can find is £400.

I just looked at Sweetwater's website in America and they sell them, including postage for America, for £200?!

However, they will not ship goods abroad.

Does anyone know of any companies that offer similar prices and will ship abroad? At £400 I cannot afford this microphone. At £200 I can afford this microphone.

Search under SM7 and SM7B.

Many, many thanks. I'd tried SM7, not SM7B. The latter yielded a much better return, and something that looks promising. I'm watching some second hand ones on ebay uk but they look like they'll go for more than a new one from america. Strange world.

I think Shure has pretty strict distribution deals to protect their pricing structure.

Thanks. I've spent weeks (and subconciously, years) reading on here and elsewhere about microphones and ended up with a shortlist to cover recording mostly guitars and vocals:

I've just sold heaps of stuff to try and go for quality over quantity and despite my temptation to get a couple of the cheaper mics from the above list I'm pretty sure I'm going to spend all the money I've allocated on one mic - the SM7. Maybe I can get the e606 specifically for electric guitar at a later date.

I would consider substituting a beyer m160 for one of your suggestions. It was the first real mic I ever bought (used ~$400). Very versitile and it sounds excellent.

I would type more about it, but I am unable to spell anything today. It's frustrating.

i bought my sm7b from full compass new $314.00 plus shipping. this mic tends to be useful for electric guitars and human voices. some people use them on floor toms and as room mics, your mileage may vary.

Not at all... the Subhumans use a different mic for their vocals.

I've found the SM7 an excellent vocal mic for many singers. I've had good results also on floor tom and bass cabinet.

I second the M160 suggestion. Excellent as overhead for drums, hihat, cymbals, tambourine, guitar cabinets, violin, acoustic guitar and certain vocals.
