It's okay for you Chicago lot you have got a good coherent scene with a long prestigious history. Just wanting to know how everyone else feels about their local scene.
We have a very poor history musically in the NE of England - Status Quo, Sting, Lindisfarne, Chris Rea - all shite. Nowadays the local scene is stifled by bands jumping on the angular punk bandwagon after maximo Park and Futureheads - it stinks.

5You have a point, but regardless of my misplaced local pride, there must be more than that. I'm just in little old Middlesbrough, but you're in the big city. Who are the three of which you speak? I didn't know Unit Ama were from up there by the way.
And that Status Quo comment might raise a few eyebrows round these parts... speaking of which, I didn't know they were from up here either - are you sure about that?
Brian Ferry's from up there... The Animals...
Jesus. You're right. Fuck!!!
Did you ever hear Crane from Sunderland? I can't remember what they turned into but they were fucking excellent.

I meant Dire Straits - i always get them two mixed up.
Okay bands - still quite angular punk though.
Obi Got Ludo
Dartz! (from the boro)
Ever since the lake caught fire
and
The Unit Ama
Mushi Mushi (kind of a weird drum n bass band)

Ah, you like Dartz! Lovely lads. Bit pop for me, but they bring it live.

I think there's a thread of made up emo names on here somewhere.

This band's drummer needs to spend some time with a metronome. Or at least learn how to count. I like this band, but the drummer...ugh.

10I hate 'angular' pop.
So many people want to sound like so many other people. I'd really, really like to know who the good bands are around here, I really have no fucking idea. If Ivan Dobsky's around he might have a clue. Thanks for waking me up to this question. I shall now go outside and look.
