Song: Wire s " A Serious of Snakes"
2A difficult song to assess, even in the context of their other work of the period.
I quite like it, not as much as "Eardrum Buzz" or "Kidney Bingos".
After a relatively featureless first verse the chorus and subsequent verses build on the initial harmonic base; amusing contrivance or typically tight Wirean logic?
Notable enough for the band Spoon to make what looks like a parody of the song title in naming their album "A Series of Sneaks".
Worth repeated listenings (it is Wire, after all) and the lyrics are interesting.

3I fucking love this song. That EP is the last Wire record I bought.

4I'm fond of it. The EP's pretty good, and I liked it a lot better than The Ideal Copy. Later, reading the Wire bio, apparently these sessions had a much better vibe than the subsequent LP sessions, affecting the result.

5Like it a lot. Suffused with indefinable nastiness and ominousness. "Ya silver-tongued...SCHNAKE." My copy sounds ickily trebly, though that may be part of its charm. Depending on my mood I sometimes prefer it to some of their poppier-sounding moments like "The 15th" and "Outdoor Miner," though "Map Ref" still pwns, not least because of the way Colin Newman snaps "Chorus!" I recall liking "Eardrum Buzz" OK but haven't heard it in a long time and don't have a copy handy. All this in the context of Wire being eminently Not Crap into the late 80s, of course.

7this was my introduction to wire.

8I like Eardrum Buzz. Goofy, but catchy.
If I recall correctly, the video is full of really cool cameos.
Doesn't Bob N. say "Scchhhhnake!" in one of the Pavement Peel Session songs? Circa 1762 maybe?

9I like 'Eardrum Buzz,' as well. Not their best, but I dig.
I saw Wire in '88 or so and thought they were great. Peabody's Downunder in Clevo. The Band of Susans opened, and they were satisfying, as well. I admittedly wanted Wire to break the face of their new stuff by playing an encore of older tunes but it was all Ideal Copy, Bell is a Cup, and the EPs. Still, very good. They closed with 'Drill,' which was looped in such a way that each member left the stage, Gotobed leaving last, the music still pounding.
'Serious of Snakes' is a terrific song.
