Pinkerton

It marks a time Weezer's career where they were truly treading in unmarked territory. The sound of the record is amazing, and extremely ballsy for a followup.

Unfortunatly since that record I look at Weezer as song writting machines with little soul behind their work. When Rivers says thing like he can sit in his room and write 100 songs in a couple days one has to think that formula is winning over substance and honesty.

It seems that Pinkerton is the very thing that caused this transformation. Because the record didnt do so well they broke off with their bass player (who went on to make a record that sounded alot like Pinkerton). They then made every move they could to distant themselves from the direction they were headed with that record. I guess if all you're worried about is album sales then they've done the right thing but I think they strayed from their true artistic potential if they ever had any.

Sorry if What Im saying is offensive to any current Weezer fans.

Looked at the CD version and I found it interesting that this album was recorded in several studios across the States : Sound City (LA),Fort Apache (Boston), Hollywood Sound Recorders, Rumbo Recorders (Canoga Park), and Electric Lady in NY. For the amount of studios and engineers used the album sounds extremely consistent.

I notice that one of the engineers was Dave Fridmann. I don't recognise the others, although the name Jack Joseph Puig (who mixed it) rings a bell. Anyone know anything about him?

I remember back in '96 riding my Shwinn up to the local Wal-Mart to pick up the sophomore Weezer release so I could have it the day it came out. I had to sell off my Pearl Jam collection to a used cd store to get the $12 for the cd, it was well worth it! This record inspired me to write, record, produce more honest and truthful songs. I also agree that the green and Maladroit albums are nothing compared to the first two weezer records. I am still searching for the next Pinkerton...I will be looking for a long time.
you can roll a Turd in Glitter....but it is still a turd

I thought this record was a load of tripe. The songwriting was so under par when compared to the original record. Rivers came across as more of a little bitch than ever and then, and then, he had the nerve to come back after the millenium with a song called "Hashpipe". That guy is the "Lars Ulrich of Alternative Rock" simply because I truly believe him to be a total cocksucker and a closet pedophile. I want to kick his ass so hard that he'll think his song "In The Garage" was actually "In My Room" by Brian Wilson.
Better yet, eat the placenta!!!

having seen the weezer DVD, theres some footage of them recording pinkerton drum tracks. looks like they did the bass live with the drums, but overdubbed the rest. great drum sounds on that album. i remember the first time hearing it being really taken aback by the drums. the kit is squeaky and theres lots of rumble. they probably did it partially by accident, but it works.
