Only a person who doesn't know shit about music would say something like that. The Rolling Stones should stop recording. Not Sonic.

You probably think Fugazi ought to stop recording too.

Go back to your Dave Matthews records and shut the fuck up.

That's kind of my question.

All I'm saying is that I think Sonic Youth is amazing, and the times I saw Pavement Ibold did nothing to impress me so it seems like a very odd match (Ibold's contriubutions to Free Kitten aside), so I guess we wait and see...[/quote]

Maybe it's because they have to share a bus with whomever they pick and they like the guy. Have you seen Sonic lately? I don't think they give a fuck about what any of us think of their live show.

Sounds like they're coasting on this one. When are they going to change their name to Comfy Cushion? It's not bad, but on balance I liked Sonic Nurse better -- this seems far more homogeneous.

No, they should not stop recording. I'd like to hear 'em get KARAZY with noise and fucked structures on a rock record (again) -- see "The Ineffable Me" and "Female Mechanic Now On Duty" from A Thousand Leaves. It certainly isn't beyond their powers; I don't think they're past it unless they've chosen to be.

Finally someone who is paying attention, although you do take the positive, more sympathetic angle on the situation. I on the other hand feel that Sonic, of all parties concerned, should know this already and should not have let this flimsy, anyone-could-have-written-this-average-shit monstrosity ever develop, let alone be released. What were they thinking?

Rock music should make you want to rip your heart out, down your beer and trash the nearest hotel room. When I don't get that feeling I get mad. There is so much nothing-rock being shoved at us that when one of our stalwart inspirations decides to betray us this way, I just start to loose faith.
Thanks for understanding ctrl-s! Rock and roll.

Hey, I don't hate it. "Reena" and "Pink Steam" especially are perfectly enjoyable SonicYouth(tm) tuneage and are receiving significant play over here. I can't say I feel personally violated by Sonic Youth putting out an unchallenging / undistinguished album -- it's not like they'd been ripping my head off for the past 15 years straight and then abruptly turned into Blink-182 last week. I'd hate to see 'em fade into terminal blandness, but who knows what they'll do next.

Ok, ok, I could have put it this way

but then that would just be just a tad diplomatic for my style. I wish people would stop being so frightfully insecure about their musicallity and re-open their ears to what skull-crushingly passionate music is all about.
