My boss sent me an e-mail saying to get the take up motor on our ATR lubed or replaced. I know about the ATR service company, but I'm also pretty good with repair and electronics. Advice?

Mike at ATR service (http://www.atrservice.com/) ROCKS. I could not recommend anyone higher... He is a gentelman and a scholar and has helped me "land the burning plane with no landing gear" over the phone a few times. If you sent it to him, it will come back right.
Not that I'm saying that you shouldn't fix it...

3You probably don't have to replace it. Most motors can be rebuilt and unfortunately it isn't a DIY project. If we were talking about an electric lawn mower I'd say go at it, but you really want this to be done right (or you might have to replace$$$).
Listen to Jeremy. Call Mike Spitz early one day and tell him your stoy. He wont push you around and he'll be honest.
A properly rebuilt motor will run like new for years. There aren't any real shortcuts. I see it as the same as getting your heads relapped.

4I guess I'll have to call him extra early since I'm on west coast time. I think we have another half assembled ATR in the back. Perhaps I can send off one motor while the spare is running in the main machine.
It's 2 am, I had a session from 6-12:30 after running the office from 9-6, and I'm due back at 9:00 tomorrow. Ah, the life of an engineer.
