Apparently they are having shows at the Fireside Bowl again. I know this because my band is playing there tonight @ 9:00. I haven't been there in years, (probably since the last time I played there about three years ago), but I've heard they have changed it up a bit and people may actually be bowling while the groups are on stage. Wow.
If you have nothing better to do and you're in the area I'd like to invite all of you out. Here's a link to my band's myspace page just so you know what you're getting yourself into:

If nothing else you can have a few beers and bowl a few frames.

2I was there bowling last night actually. I hadn't been there since they stopped having shows and my GF wanted to bowl and we realised it was the closest place so we checked it out. It was us and one other group. It's got new paint and the lanes are nicer but the bar is the same.
it's not the length, it's the gersch

3I was just having a look at their site.
Wow that's lame....
Nice turlteneck doude.
Please, tell me this does not reflect what the Fireside has actually become.

Not really, though the other group bowling last night did look like a bunch of Trixies, but no turtlenecks.
Like I said, new coat of paint, same old everything else but with lots of bowling balls. It's weird to see the stage area repainted with bowling balls on it.

Did they fix the rain-admitting hole in the roof, or are they still using the big garbage cans to catch the downpour?

All I can report is that for the hour and a half we were in there it did rain outside, as evidenced by my wet car when we came outside, but that I saw no water leaking onto lane 9 where we played or the back corner of the bar where we had cigarettes with our beers.

9Here's my field report:
They have indeed fixed the ceiling. Last time we played there there was water leaking down on the stage from the drop ceiling right into my singer's drink and he drank it. Hasn't been the same since either. Now the drop ceiling is gone and it's all nice and repainted with no signs of water damage anywhere.
The stage is smaller than it was before and they have bowling ball racks on the stage complete with bowling balls. We were discussing the idea of slipping one into a drum case and making off with it but decided to take the moral high ground and not.
The p.a. is basically the same but not a permanent fixture as it was before. After we finished our set there were some people wheeling it out of the bowling alley.
The lanes are all fixed up and actually functional now and they have some TRS-80 looking electronic scorers on each lane. I'm not up to date on bowling technology, (at least not like I used to be), but these things really do look like they are from the year 1980. If you use them to bowl you just might accidentally trigger a potential nuclear war ala War Games staring Matthew Brodrick.
Mr. Protoolio is correct, the bar is the same, except now they charge $3 a bottle for PBR and all other domestics. If I recall correctly back in the day a bottle of beer there would cost you $1.50. I'm not really sure though, my memory is a bit fuzzy as far as the bar situation there is concerned. I think I may have had one too many $1.50 domestics there in the past.
To sum it up; the same old Fireside but a little different; a lot cleaner, less music, more bowling and ass rape prices on PBR. Despite those issues a good show was played and an equally good time was had by all those in attendance...except for that dipshit in the turtle neck bowling on lane 14 during the first band's set. He had an entirely different night all together.
Chris, thanks for yet another compliment on the band. We are playing many shows in the next few weeks. Maybe I'll see you.

10I went to this bachelor party there back in may 2005, right after it was remodeled, and we dragged our friend in with a bra made out of a bandana and a leopard print blindfold. There were about 15 of us. It was a bit shocking to see the new look. I think we freaked out the bartender a little bit. Good bowling was had. I've been to a few shows there since and played a couple too. Their keepin' it real. It's so awesome to play at a venue I always wanted to play at when I was 15.
