theemajor's favorite singer...Oh, maybe i have that backwards.
Nah, it's his favorite. Ask him about it. better yet, pm him about it.
I really enjoy Morrissey's first solo album, Viva Hate.
It seemed quite a strong statement coming off the Smiths.
Vini Reilly playing the guitar didn't hurt either.
He just seemed to get progressively more boring as he went on.
Or perhaps my taste just became more discerning.
Not crap. Waffles baby, lotsa' waffles.

12I've heard one Smiths album. It was ok. Little o, little k.

13the Morrissey solo stuff is boring. A lot of the Smiths is boring too, but a few of those songs I like oh so much.
As a singer, Moz is NOT CRAP. His croon is a bit of a one-trick pony, but he's been consistent in his melodrama for over twenty years.
Morrissey pillow cases? Best merch in the history of merch.

14Certainly an acquired taste, but not crap.
I'm much more bummed out by his imitators, which are now thankfully few, now that time has passed.
I prefer The Smiths because the music's great, but the Moz has had some moments too.
I would have been less kind had I not seen him at SXSW this year. Tall order coming after Richard Hawley and before Goldfrapp, but he was really, really good.
I expected melodrama and prissiness. Instead he was professional, gracious and truly appreciative of the audience. He was also funny.
Nice one Moz. Here's to a long, not so miserable life, brother.

16my mega cute ex had one of those Morrissey pillowcases. in the winter of 2004-2005 i probably slept on it a hundred times. one night she tried to force me to kiss it... i've been in therapy ever since.
in general i like the Smiths much more than Morrissey, but Vauxhall & I is such a great record i couldn't think of voting Crap here. the production, songwriting and overall delivery on V&I are perfect. furthermore it makes an excellent companion album to Cath Carroll's True Crime Hotel. both records seem to capture a decidely "adult" form of listless abandon which i'm often in the mood for. especailly in autumn.
i'm kinda surprised no one here has made mention of the fact that Morrissey has a strong Mexican/Hispanic following. this, i believe, is a beautiful thing; a pleasant surprize even if you saw it coming. i'm not sure if i can explain it, but i find it very touching whenever any sort of art transcends its sociological boundaries. like brothers in the Bronx getting down to Kraftwerk/Gary Numan, or cute hipsters in Berlin dancing poorly to chitlin circuit funk records. this i beleive is the destination fo all things great: somewhere unexpected.

18I don't like a lot of Morrissey's solo stuff. I love some of the Smiths' stuff. But simply as a vocalist, Morrissey is 100% NOT CRAP.
Unique style. Wonderful regional accent. No stupid Englishman trying to sing like an American bullshit. Damn fine singer.
The End.

Yeah, exactly the same.
Viva Hate is as good as some Smiths stuff, after that steadily down hill.
