I should also mention Giuseppe's basslines from my old band Lazar Wolf. Click the link below and listen to "Catalogue of Devils" (or "Willoughby") to see what I'm talking about.

124Carol Kaye is completely amazing. She has played on so many classics by so many different people and her tone, note selection, and insticts are/ were fantastic. Her and James Jamerson, they had it all figured out. One day I hope to also.
Good Luck,

128Off the top of my head:
Final Solution - Pere Ubu. Why was the bass never this good in any of their other songs? Or anyone elses songs for that matter. I have never heard rock bass swing like this anywhere else.
Nasty Dogs and Funky Kings - ZZ Top. Seeing them play this live on the Jools Holland TV show about a decade ago was one the defining moments in rock for me. What I would to get my hands on for a video of that performance. Thing is I taped it as well.
Most of the bass on the Rapeman record, but the distorted bits on Trouser Minnow stand out in particular.
69 Année Érotique - Serge Gainsbourg. I would have loved to hear a version of this by the Jesus Lizard.
Funhouse - Stooges
Public Image - PIL
Ride On - Parliament
Song from under the Floorboards - Magazine.
Nobody's Fault But Mine - Led Zeppelin.

Yeah, Massacre were great. Too bad they were just one of the thousands of little projects Laswell played in; to me that was some of his best work.
Oh yeah, a cool bassline: "We'll make a lover of you" by Les Savy Fav is one of the newer awesome basslines on my mind right now.
