Also, I've started using the dbx NR pretty much all the time now. The noise was just too much, and I dont think it hurts the quality any more than any other piece in the chain before the signal hits tape.
hey wiggins, I've got a question for you about this - and this will reveal how ridiculously unknowledgeable I am when it comes to tape machines -
Do you engage the dbx NR while you record, or after you record and are mixing? Because I've tried engaging it after I record, and it really jacks up everything pretty bad on my 388.
