Yes, that was really ugly and his name is Harald or "Toni" Schumacher, by the way.
It were the days of ugly prison football. It started somewhere around 1982-83 when the Germans became famous for terrible, ugly, tanklike football. The "22 players on the pitch and in the end Germany wins" kind of football. No risk, no guts and definitely no fun to watch. It lasted until 2004. In the meantime Germany didn't win against any of the "big" football nations. They were pretty shit during the last two years, to be honest. Even less fun to watch. I expected them to go down in the first round.
And all of a sudden they've played four great games in a row. 3 1/2 to be fair, the second half of the game against Sweden was pretty boring. I don't know if you realized it, but they don't play "German" anymore. England did. I'm happily surprised.
I'm even a bit more excited because of Miro Klose. We grew up in the same small town, a village of 3500 inhabitants. As kids we played for the same club. He's two years younger than I am, so we never played in the same team but he played there until his early twenties.
Miro is the first player who plays for Germany whom I know. He's a great guy and comparing him to players like Andrej Schewtschenko, who's "worth" ten times as much, is a lot of fun because he plays ten times better.
No matter how the game end's today, Germany played some good football so far. If they keep on playing like they've played in the first games and still lose against Argentina today, then salut Argentina. Argentina played amazingly well so far and whoever wins today's game deserves to win the World Cup.
