I realize that this must have been a poll already, but I couldn't find it. I was really just looking to see what the board thought of 'em. If this poll has been done before, its cool with me if the thread is deleted -- and if so, could someone "bump" the old one for me? Thanky!
Go!
Band: Q and not U
2Music's not bad, I guess, but it just doesn't hit me. Maybe it just sounds a little bit too much like a teenage party sound track or something. I've heard people say that they are the kings of indie-dance, but I say phooey on that... I just saw !!! and, well, I say they take the cake in that category.

3I really like Q and Not U. Good music and they have the whole Dischord thing goin' on for them. I've never heard them described as any kind of party or indie-dance band, and something like that never would have occurred to me if I hadn't read it here.
I thought the first LP was just so-so and sort of just another Fugazi inspired band and the first time I saw them was right after they had lost the bass player and the show was shaky at best. But since then I've seen them a few more times and they've really reinvented themselves as a really interesting trio. Since then the records/music has gotten a lot more interesting and original as well.

4Q&!U's older stuff really kicked ass, i thought. then their bass player quit. after that, i dunno. they aren't replacing him, from what i've heard they're not interested in replacing him. unfortunately for them, his bass playing was what put the band over the top, i think. especially look at a song like "kiss distinctly american", i think that's such a great atmosphere, and they'll never play that song again and have it sound any good.
also, when they played Fort Reno last year... EGAD! the part at the end of their set, where one of them pulls out a shovel, and starts digging up the ground and throwing the dirt around a little... that was pretty lame, i thought, digging up a national park and all. and i dunno what point they were making exactly, either. something about taking back the land? meh. and then they marched through the audience, banging on the shovel like some freakin hippies or something. meh.
i miss the old Q&!U. another classic example of a band that starts off really good, and goes in all the wrong direction.
still, NOT CRAP. still better than most of what else is out there.

5I think they could easily be written off as a band with whiny vocals, however the music is exciting and original. Not Crap.

6I really like "different damage". It's got a dynamic and very open feel to it that a lot of music nowadays misses. Great! Have yet to see them live though.

8Different Damage is a great record. I like it even more than their first album, because of the diversity of used instruments and arrangements. Everything is a little more reduced to the REALLY important elements for the song. I like that very much. So NOT CRAP. I hope to be able to do a show for them on their upcoming European tour.
It´s such a fine line between stupid and clever.

9i saw them a bunch of times, they were better as a four piece.
but some of the trio stuff is pretty damn good too.
mostly though, their stuff is kind of weak and not aging well. with a few very notable exceptions.
"hooray for humans." killer.

10One of my favourites. I love all three records very dearly. Great live band too.
No Kill No Beep Beep might well be my favourite. Such an incredible debut. So self-assured, well executed and very ambitious for such a young band. The guitar interplay on this album makes my fretting hand ache with sympathy. Good lyrics too. I liked Chris and Harris' voice a lot. Fantastic artwork on the vinyl version. Maybe even in my top ten favourite records.
I hope to see something from these gentlemen again soon. I thought the Ris Paul Ric album was pretty cool but I'd like to see the ideas developed further.
