What s the worst cover ever recorded?

I remember watching a TV interview with Robert Palmer in the 80s which must have been conducted during a tour. Robert Palmer was talking about how he and the band rocked things up a little for the live show, and as an example of this he mentioned that they were playing covers of tracks by Motorhead and Husker Du.

If recordings of these shows exist, they must surely be the worst recorded covers ever.

What about The BulletBoys covering "Hang On St. Christopher"? I actually heard the cover years before I heard Tom Waits sing the song, and found it odd that he was covering a Bullet Boys song. Boy, was I stupid.

EDIT: Sorry for getting off topic here, but I just did a search on Amazon.com to see what other songs the BulletBoys may have covered, and it appears they have one album and then a greatest hits CD. What's up with that? Also, here's a review of their greatest hits CD, titled "Burning Cats and Amputees":

Braverino, but bad title, February 21, 2005
Reviewer: Rich King's Breakfast Nook "Gretna is a great community" (East Gretna, NE) - See all my reviews
The Bulletboys are easily one of the best 3,584 bands out there today and taking all of their hits and putting them onto one disc is no easy task. I mean, there's "Smooth up in ya" and, um, some other great songs that I just can't remember right off hand. This collection nails it though. Bulletboys are in that Ratt, Britney Fox, Zebra pantheon of great metal bands that make Burt Reynolds wish he'd do another Smokey and the Bandit movie. But what's with the title? I'm a lover of cats. I have 25 of them at home. There's Washinfeet the siamese cat, Cramps the bobcat, Kurtis Blow the jaguar, Keithen McCant the tabby and 21 other cats I love more than my Zwol collection. Why burn them Bulletboys? What did the cats do to you? And picking on amputees? That's truly tasteless. Rick Allen would walk up to you and say, "I can't fell muh Ahm" and whoop you with his good arm if he so chose. So, I think the music is awesome, but I would've called the album Friskies in my pants.
A little chi kung up the Ch'ueng Mo O))

Patti Smith's supposedly divine cover of "Gloria," off of "Horses."

You're really playing with fire there, Mister.

Duran Duran did a whole ablum of awful covers, including:

White Lines (Don't Don't Do It)
I Wanna Take You Higher
Perfect Day
Watching The Detectives
Lay Lady Lay
911 Is A Joke
Success (Iggy Pop)
Crystal Ship
Ball Of Confusion
Thank You (Led Zeppelin)
I Wanna Take You Higher Again

after a brief search on allmusic.com i was struck: fuck me, you are not joking. forget britney's satisfaction, the idea of duran duran covering 911 is a joke is as assbackwards as it gets. i mean...

If you want to bring up the "Chilli Peppers," how can you forget their cover of "Love Rollercoaster?" Awful.
There are crispy fries waiting to come out of your oven: you just have to make them and put them there.
