ok, maybe because I don't know anyone with that kind of drug problem makes me feel this tv show enjoyable

The show pays for expensive rehab for the people, rehab they'd never be able to afford on their own. Remember, not everyone is rich...not everyone's parents are rich. A lot of you people seem to forget that sometimes. The people doing the show seem to honestly care about helping these fucked up out of control people. I have a fuck up neice who does meth, would it bother me one bit that she was on TV one night doing her meth if it ment she'd be able to go to the best rehab in the country for free afterward? Nope, roll those fucking cameras make your show.
This show I would think will be responsible for a shitload of people NOT getting into drugs. Shitloads of kids getting to see what getting into cocaine or heroin or whatever is really like, I'm all for it.

after hearing that (sorry I have only watched the show 1 time) I wonder, what if the person say "yes I will go to rehab, but there is NO WAY I will do it on TV" what then, do they still pay for it?

also your logic as "this will keep people off of drugs" is wrong, Addiction is a medical condition that is brought on by (or Anti) social behavoir normally people who become addicted to drugs were fucked up well before they turned to drugs (or some other addiction) drugs are simply there way of acting out... if they didn't turn to drugs they would destroy themselves in some other way...

as for the scare-tactic approach it dosen't work if it did after 3rd grade (in Amerrica) no kid would try any drug...

i watched a little of one or two episodes and it was too much for me to take. painful and uncomfortable.

To begin with, the person with the drug problem isn't told ahead of time that at the end of the documentary they're going to have the opportunity to go to rehab. The way that I understand it works is that a family member contacts the show and explains the situation. After the family has agreed to participate they confront the addict about taking part in a documentary about addiction, the addict is surprised with the intervention at the end of the taping. I like to think that the addict agrees thinking that showing how strung out they are might deter others from getting hooked.
And as a DARE poster boy in 5th grade who enjoyed all sorts of drugs in high school and my early 20's, I can honestly say that between recess and social studies, I don't recall seeing any actual footage of herion addicts shooting up and then hooking to make some money for more heroin.

And as for addiction solely affecting people with issues; that's ridiculous. Oh sure it might play a factor in a significant number of cases, another factor might be that the drug they're enjoying is highly fucking addictive. Many factors figure into addiction.

dude the one about the jesus freak lady who's kid was molested by a preist and the turned to crystal and she was praying over the money that she was giving him to by drugs with was really really fucked up.

It's like a car wreck, this show. I saw a bunch of them in the first season, saw the one with the alcoholic gutter punk who went into rehab because there was no other way his mother was going to give him his dog back...first thing he did when he got out was went and got a 40.

I said "normally" this would mean that it is most likley the case, but it is not always... and the word "fucked" in my thinking could mean they were were genetically prone to addiction/given a very bad lot in life... Sorry but in my experience people who become addicts always have had a very bad family/friends circle and many people who enabled them, and I see addiction as a medical symptom of that issue and feel it should be treated as a medical problem (but that is a debate for another thread)

I have no clue where/when you grew up but going to school in the 80s during the "just say no" era, I remember seeing dramatic scare tatics alot...
