For distortion I use a Marshall Guv'nor, Ibanez Metal Charger, a boutique fuzz (not naming the brand because the builder is an utter cock) and a Joe Meek VC8 (not strictly a pedal, although it has a pedal controller).
Small Clone for chorus.
Tuna Melt tremolo.
Aria cheap as fuck 'Octave' for octave. Superb bang for the buck this pedal.
White Boss tuner pedal for tuning.
The pedal that I hate more than any other pedal is the Bozz Metal Zone. This pedal is arse in a small, black box.

42my setup:
Fender Jag --->
Vintage Rat --->
BigMuff Pi --->
Crybaby Wah -->
Copicat Tape Delay -->
Jazz Chorus
Getting a bit sick of the muff though... it's just too thick sounding but it compensates for the lack of sustain you get out of the jag I guess....

It's pretty nice. The "slam" feature isn't as cool as I thought it would be, but it's useful.
This pedal does sound very analog/low res. Not sick analog, like the old Ibanez gear, but at $99, how can you complain. This pedal, she is built so very nice. A brick. Lots of control.

Great stompbox. That and the OCD are tough to argue with.

I'd love to know more about this. What did you do? How does it sound? It want application would you use it? Something "normal" or for crazy stuff, like a ring mod?
evolu wrote:A modded Mk2 Rat (no LED) great for pushing a lightly clipped amp but sounds fucking awful when the distortion knob is wound anywhere past 2.
No LED? How can you tell when it's on?

Despised pedals - Tube Screamers, sound like every crap Boss fuzz / distortion only with the added benefit of having a flat battery..... or am I missing something?
You and me both, brother. I don't know why the world creams their jeans over these things. I think the sound weak. As far as production ODs go, the Boss Super Overdrive is so much nicer.
I don't use mine much anymore, but I will again one day.
I found it in the shed of the first house we bought, half burried. I chipped the dirt off of it, put in a battery, and it's worked ever since. That was ten years ago.
Regrading the Tube Screamer and it's disciples, is it just the SRV appeal?
That holds nothing for me if it is. It's not nearly aggressive enough.
I've used one with 4 different amps (Marshall JTM45, Roland JC77, Vox Cambridge, Matchless SC30) and I was never impressed. I tried the Smart People Factory clone of it (The Green Line) and thought it sounded better, but still nothing to write home about.

44I do - just email dougbhammond@yahoo.com and ask for it, and he'll forward it to you. I don't want to throw it up on the internet out of respect for the deal he made with Dr. Z, neh?benadrian wrote:Antero wrote:-I just built Doug Hammond's Highway 89 overdrive, and it's amazing. Simply gorgeous. Took some effort to build for an electrical newbie like me, but it was worth the effort. Oh man.
Do you have a schematic for the 89?

(Some folks have found that using a larger cap in C6 keeps it from being too harsh with certain amps - I used a .022, others have used .047)

45Third vote for the hotcake. Great pedal.
I have mine set for cleanish when soft which dirts up in a big way when you hit harder - 'tis all i find i need.
Apart from the fuzz factory of course when one needs to take some heads off at the back.

46Over the weekend I was talking to this middle-aged stockbroker guy who is really into boutique pedals. He was saying his favorites were:
-Z. Vex Super Hard On
-Way Huge Swollen Pickle
-Electro-Harmonix Mail Reproductive Organ- He said this one gives him authentic-sounding classic Hammond tone. Only available through the post.
-Celebrex Electronix Fuzz Pud - this one helps him to get his chops up, he said.
-Traynex English Breakfast T-Bag- According to him, you can dial in neutered versions of various Brit amp tones with this one. He wouldn't stop crowing like a cock about the sweet deal he got on Tbay.

50Ibanez DML-10 mod/delay. From the late 80's.
Some FREAK sounds can be achieved with this pedal- trippy delayed side 2 of Echoes pitch stuff(potential woofer fucker), reasonably long delay, metallic 80's style chorus, and one of the coolest sounding flangers ever...I mean... EVER!!!!!
