You're right, Rachael. It's not little, and it's fucking terrible, and the sign and balloons his wife put on the mailbox to welcome him home from the hospital ripped out my fucking heart.

My neighbors just had another baby that had been in the hospital for some time after it had been born.

They finally got it home and brought it by our house as we were one of the few who were aware of it's pending due-date.

We were oohing and ahhing over him when the mother explained that he has down's syndrome.

Strange world we live in.

Today at work I dropped my birth control pill on the carpeting of the break room, causing it to bounce up and over a 1/2" gap in the cabinetry trim. After unsuccessfully attempting to move the giant cabinet, I found a hammer and pried the trim from the frame well enough to snatch my wayward pill from the darkness.

On the way out of work this evening, I spotted one of the store mice in the breakroom. It immediately bolted...into the gap in the cabinet that I had retrieved my pill from earlier today. I'm assuming this is the place which the mice dwell since we haven't been able to find any other obvious mouse homes in the store.

I am now likely going to die of the hantavirus.

Yesterday, I was feeling bored, so I popped round the corner to my friend James' house. James had just bought a small polystyrene remote-controlled airplane. Actually, it's more a glider with a small motor on each wing than a plane and only has a range of 50 metres or so. Anyway, we wandered down to the park and took turns in flying the tiny plane. It flew really nicely and as long the wind wasn't too strong, you could keep it in the air for 2 or 3 minutes at a time. I managed to lodge it in a tree at one point---the controls aren't that responsive--but we soon had it down. There was a young asian lad nearby who was completely transfixed by it, but a little too shy to ask, so we gave him a go. I think it made his day.

Flying model aeroplanes is a complete stress-buster.

I sat down outside of the Golden Nugget Pancake House on Clark Street on my way to work today.

A large group of well-dressed women, mostly African American, emerged from the doorway having a great time shortly after I sat down.

Two ladies straggled behind the group and one of them leaned very close to me. She was a beautiful woman with close-cropped hair.

"You are wearing my favorite kind of dress in my favorite color." I smiled at her.

Then she pointed to her forehead where there was a glittery piece of confetti, the number "60".

She told me it was her 60th birthday and asked me to think about what I wanted to be doing on my 60th birthday. I promised I would and then we said goodbye and I yelled to her friends to make sure she had a fabulous day.

I've been thinking about this all day. My 60th birthday. I just hope I will have travelled a lot, will be planning to travel more, that I will have an intelligent partner who amuses me more than frustrates me, and that I have lots of thought-provoking encounters with interesting strangers. That's it.

I got drunk with Earwicker, who's moving away this week.

A cat wandered in from the yard around lunchtime and won't leave.

He's fluffy and as cute as hell and makes this wonderful little 'yip' noise. Me and miss had an afternoon nap and he/she curled up with us. It's not cupboard love - aside from a bit of tuna he's not interested in anything I've offered. We went to the cinema late afternoon and about ten minutes after getting back he was there again.

He's snuggling down around by my feet as I type.

there's a cat on my street called Holly that rushes over to me everytime we pass. some cats just take a shine to you i guess!
