my friend jeff tobias said it best: "[tim] kinsella's best, if not only, good quality is his choice in band mates"

ill agree. i dont know about everywhere else, but there is this little core of people (mostly college-aged girls) that are obsessed over him, and everything he does. Owls was cool (for the guitar and the drumming). Cap'n Jazz was cool (for the fact they were so young). make believe is alright (for the guitars). i heard everything else blows. and people are crazy about him.

crap.

for the record, hero worship = crap.

What a swell guy, though.

I have never been a "fan" but I have enjoyed some of his work. He did a solo acoustic show here in New York last year that held my attention. I have trouble relating to his musical approach but I'll give him credit for being prolific and inimitable.

But we aren't voting on his music, are we? We're voting on his fanbase. The indie music fan keeps the rest of us in business so, indie music fans, you are all NOT CRAP.

EDIT TWO YEARS LATER: I am a big fan of Make Believe now. And Tim is still a swell guy as are the rest of the guys. I'm looking forward to the new one.

Make Believe - I love this band to death.
I could give two shits about his so-called "fans/cult"... how this topic originally started. But he is obviously doing something right, when all of his albums/bands are considerably more than entertaining to listen to. Regards to his "new" band Make Believe, I had to comment.
Fantastic! It’s original and fun as hell to listen to. Someone once told me they've never ever quite heard anyone sound/sing like Tim. Just very different sounding all together - His voice is rare. As in, pitch, tone, amusingly scratchy screams, kind of prepubescent shaky sound… but always does something very attractive all at the same time. His lyrics are SO witty/creative... it's just not funny. Guitar in this album makes Ian Williams look kind of boring as well. Not way over the top technical but still ambient and experimental. Five wonderful songs - great album overall.

ok, ill admit it. im obsessed. tim kinsella floats my boat like no other. everything he has ever done (well almost) is really really good, and if not, its entertaining at least.

i think he just does whatever he feels like hasn't been tried too much yet. and if he likes it, he runs with it.

my 2 cents.. though im a little biased...

look for the tim kinsella worship supersite coming in late august:

This CD will not be available in the shops until April, but is exclusively available from Durtro and Jnana Records now.

when i was 16 i thought i was going to strait up marry tim kinsella. i had plans and everything. i think it's the weirdness he sort of... tries? or, does? kids are into weirdness. then i got older and my taste changed. he is so short!!! i'm not sure if i'm at a place in my life where i could enjoy make believe or owls either (maybe i should listen tho)-- but, cap'njazz...? i am still down.

I'm part of no cult, but I do enjoy some his projects.

Cap'n Jazz is hands down the best thing he's ever been in.

Make Believe is great.

Joan of Arc was good.

Friend/Enemy never heard.

Owls was just straight up boring.
