I play in the band. I am on stage with the band. I wear the t-shirt of the band I am playing in right now. We sell them too.

Faux-pas! (hey dickhead, I get it--you play bass and sell crappy oversized 50/50's.)

Holy shit, I know a woman who dated a guy who has an action figure modeled after himself.

(I also know a guy named Ken who married a woman named Barbie).

Funny.

I once read a piece about a guy who worked for a T-shirt and souvenier company, handling merch sales for a lot of big-shot rock bands. He worked a Rolling Stones tour once, and claimed that every night after the show, Jagger would look at the sales sheet and see what was moving (they were carrying thirty or forty different items at each show). If a particular shirt wasn't selling, Mick would make a point of wearing it on stage, and invariably there would be a sales spike on it that evening. This explains a lot about why Jagger wears a Rolling Stones shirt. The guy from the Verve Pipe, I have no fucking idea.

I read an interview with Tina Weymouth, where she was talking about wearing shirts with her own band name on it.

Apparently, when they were trying to decided what to call the band, they took a few of their best ideas, printed them on T-shirts, and walked around town in them for a while.

Weymouth's red T-shirt with Talking Heads in silver letters generated a fair amount of negative attention. She says one passerby on the street accosted her, saying "Is that the name of a band? That's a terrible name for one.." and another just snarled, "Ooh, I hate that," while passing by.

Apparently they thought a name that bugged people that much would stick in your head.

Anyway, this is the only N/C instance of wearing your own band's shirt I am aware of.

i used to think it was dumb for all the obvious reasons... but it's only dumb if you're doing it to show it off, promote your band or to jerk off your ego. I just don't care. I may have worn our t-shirts to a show, and i don't even know, or care. I like our shirts. They are all hand made and they fit me nicely. That's all the reasoning I need to wear a shirt whenever I want. The only thing I consider when picking out a shirt to play in is if it is comfortable to play in. So if i accidentally grab our band's t-shirt then that's what I'm wearing. Regardless, I don't even think they say push-pull on them.
