I cannot stop listening to this band at the moment. "Seabeast" is surely set to become one of my favourite songs of all time. And i have finally after years of pondering picked up a copy of 'Moby Dick' and started reading it because of Leviathan.

I was playing records in a bar/club earlier tonight (i won't call it deejaying as i know some people on here seem to hate that thought) and i played "Mother Puncher" off Remission. Some guy who was in the middle of a heated discussion with his lady broke off mid conversation to stand up and shout "fucking mother puncher!" and swing his 'air-axe' to the mighty riff. His girlfriend stormed out in a huff, but he came and shook my hand before attempting to follow her.

Hail the good ship MASTODON!
You're a shit DM and i want my pizza money back.

The type of band that with every listen, sounds better and better. I'd suggest new listeners to immerse themselves into Mastodon to fully appreciate 'em. And "Remission" has to be a top 10 greatest metal album ever.

I'm listening to "Blood Mountain"....the first song bored me to tears, but it quickly got back onto typical Mastodon genius thereafter. I can see this album will remain true to the "you have to listen to it again and again and again to fully appreciate" territory Mastodon walks in.
That's not entirely true.

Not a minority opinion, I think. Keelhaul are an amazing band, especially live, and they get a lot of converts at every show. EyeHateGod has never really done anything for me.

I was lucky enough to see Mastodon in a 100-person club before they blew up, on a bill with a bunch of soundalike hardcore bands. WOW. This was when they were still wrapping up their set with a volcanic cover of "Emerald."

Mastodon started with more guts and a clearer sounding vision. They seemed to have traded the rock onslaught/metal harmonies and ogre-like vocals for more prog-sounding experiments and melodic/questionable nu-metal sounding vocals. Remission and Lifesblood Ep, mostly not crap. High waffle factor on Leviathan and what I've heard of the new stuff. I can mostly stomach the prog, but not that new approach to vocals. If this is Mastodon finding itself, I think I liked the seeds of it much better.
