Does anyone else have this problem?

It's a 'problem' (feature) of all fuzz pedals (fuzz-face/big-muff/RAT etc).

The way to get round it is to use your amp (or a second OD pedal) set so that when the fuzz-pedal is engaged, it's also over-driving the amp (or second OD pedal). You'll still get the thick distortion from the fuzz pedal, but the second stage of OD from the amp (or second pedal) will give you back your chunk, thus allowing successful palm-muting rather than the fzsssh-fzsssh sound that you're probably getting at the moment.

Obviously you need to spend some time juggling the two stages of over drive (using less drive than before at the fuzz stage) to get back to the level that you are now using, but with added chunk.

Thanks, i have briefly tried using a DS1 before the Big Muff, and hadn't experimented with the levels. I will have a go next practice.

The chunk-provider needs to be after the fuzz, not before.

A DS1 isn't really ideal, what you really want is a nice gentle OD stage, ideally provided by a valve amp, but if not then by something fairly vanilla such as a Marshall Guvnor.

Having said that, maybe the DS1 will sound amazing!

The idea is for the fuzz to provide most of the distortion, and the second stage to provide just enough OD to give it some chunk.

The Fulltone looks cool, but quite big, would prefer to use as little board space as possible!

Though saying that, i'm quite interested in this Trem;

anyone tried it?

This is a great box, and well built, but I had a hard time getting a really obnoxious tremolo out of it. It's pretty good - great for the money - but not quite what I wanted for those rare, but essential, choppy tremolos that I like to use.

The Fulltone isn't that big, and remember, it does many functions. It doesn't take up much more space than the Dunlop really. It's just skinnier and longer. It does every type of trem PERFECTLY.

Don't write off the Line 6. It is damn handy and sounds fabulous. I have a bunch of boxes that does what it does, so I'll probably reluctantly sell mine in a few months. The other guitarist in my band needs it for 3 dates in October, and a friend of mine will use it for a one-off local charity gig in December, then it's for sale. Of course, you can buy them on EBAY for about $200.
Super nice!

any recommendations?
If you're going for more ampish trem, rather than chop chop chop chop, the Demeter Tremulator is wonderful.

I bought a Roger Mayer Voodoo Vibe.

It's on 100% of the time. Usually just a super-light chorus setting, but I love the sound of it. It's an excellent prepreamp of sorts.

The tremolo and vibrato functions are top notch. Very wide range of settings.

...not to improve tone, or push the preamps...just to make a nice squirrely, shitty noise. Should sound pretty cool fritzing on a Class A-amped 12" speaker pushed to break up...

Holy crap man!
Tell me about THIS.

The knobs, man...look at those KNOBS.
It's enough to make *me* look like a knob.

I don't give a shit what it sounds like - GIMME!

Really, what's it do?
