Everyone seems to be going for Secret Name, but the only one I have is I Could Live In Hope. That one's the definition of subdued. I would say look there. A beautiful album, Low's debut was.
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.

As stated previously, try Things we Lost...This is their best album, in my opinion. If you don't like it, I wouldn't bother trying any others.
I also had trouble initially with Low, though not because of the vocals. I just got the sub-par albums. Stay away from Songs of A Dead Pilot (especially if you have trouble with the vocals) and The Great Destroyer.

this record is really good. unfortunately there is this horrible lull within the first 6 songs, which i had a hard time getting through when i first got this record. then one day i somehow ignored the first half and rediscovered the last half which is really terrific. dinosaur act is an awesome song, and helps me get throught he first half, as does the opening track.

The lull in the first half???? I know you mentioned them, but "Sunflower" and "Dinosaur Act" are the BEST Low songs, along with "Words."

Thanks for the input. I'll try "things we lost..." as suggested. I was really digging 'monkey' and 'california', and 'sunflower' and 'dinosaur act' were okayish, but hey, you never like the best stuff first time round.

The time period of "Long Division/Curtain hits the Cast/Secret Name" is the best in my book.

The only album I had trouble with the vocals is I Could Live In Hope, and that trouble has since faded after a few listens.

You could also see the band live - theyre quite moving live, and I think that would really help win you over as a fan.

Has anyone heard the song Just Really Wanna See You on Shudder to Think's First Love, Last Rites? It's Mimi Parker and Alan Sparhawk. I only recently found out that these are the folks from Low. I've always believed it was Craig Wedren doing over the top impressions of the characters in the song. The male voice sounds like Neil Diamond. It's good.
