I saw these guys a few times in the 90's. I haven't heard the music since then, but at the time I thought they were good.
Not crap.
Band: God and Texas
2They were good. They were tall. They were from the weirdest town in Ohio (before lamming it to Chicago). Not Crap.
I think John has a band called the Night Callers. Haven't heard 'em. He works over by the Engine Studios there, last I heard.

3Didn't Matt Fields who used to bartend/DJ at the Bottle play bass in this band? I can't actually recall hearing any God and Texas material, but if I could vote on the platform of Matt & John being fine gentelmen, then my vote is not crap.

By the way... Does anyone know what John Humphrey is up to these days?
John is the studio manager for Engine Studios in Wicker Park... has been for many years I believe.
(EDIT: Doh! Mike Greenlees beat me to the punch!)

Yah. I saw them support Sebadoh at the Vic a while back. I also think Steven Drozd played in Those Bastard Souls for a wee bit.
Matt is one of the nicest guys in this city. He's turned me on to lots of really great music, and I've lots of good fun hanging out with him. Super guy. I fucking love him.

7America's Funny Man Fred Armisen was also in Those Bastard Souls with Matt for a little bit.

Did you catch the first band on the bill? I hear they slayed.

With regret I have to admit that I do not remember Dianogah that night. You see, I'm a bit fond of the drink. I can barely remember Those Bastard Souls. However, I DO remember Dianogah playing a very captivating set some night in the 90's. Yeah. I think it was with C-Clamp, but what I mostly remember in my ageing and sauced brain is your most recent beautiful set at the Bottle with my friends in Archaeology supporting.

10I was fortunate enough to attend school in Athens (AKA "the weirdest town in Ohio") while God & Texas were there- saw them many times, most definitely not crap. John turned me on to Tar, who I also had the pleasure of seeing several times at The Union in Athens.
