new Mike Judge movie. I heard of this from Nick Degiglio (he's been ranting about it on WGN all weekend). I had some skitchy feelings, but he's one of my favorite radio personalities in chicago, or rather my only favorite radio personality and I had nothing to do today (except post on this board). I went and saw it on a lark and it seemed to have a duality of how it will be perceived:
A- what a stupid movie just like office space. The usual Mike Judge mess. Funny by representing stupidity at large and multiplying it. generally un-entertaining.
That point of view is just fine, i suppose.
But here's what I felt, and is compulsory to anyone who will love this movie like I did.
B- The world is well on its way to becoming this stupid, i'm laughing at everything thats going on but what should seem a barrage of dumb comedy, holds worry in the back of my mind.

2No promo pics. No trailer. Fox is clearly trying to bury this movie. But I doubt it has anything to do with its quality.
I like Mike Judge and have enjoyed pretty much everything he's been a part of. Too bad Idiocracy isn't showing in NYC.

This is true. Nick G. has called Fox spokespeople in regards to it and found they don't even know anything about it. It was supposed to be released under a different name a year or two ago, some callers said.

7Idiocracy is only playing in one theatre in my area and the closest one is almost 40 minutes away. There is one daily screening. At 11:30am.
11:30am?!? Who is going to be able to see this? Senior citizens and bartenders?
Looks like I'm getting up early this Saturday if I want to see it.

9I believe this movie was originally called 3001. Fox completely refused to promote it at all. This is probably due to the film taking very sharp and almost hateful swipes at what corporations are doing to the world. Idiocracy is a very good satire even if it wears slightly thin by the end. Everyone should have at least gotten a chance to see it. I thought it was pretty brave.

10I usually like Mike Judge, but Idocracy was crap.
It's not interesting and it's not making an important statement in a clever way. I "got it" five minutes into the film and had it smashed in my face for the next hour and ten minutes (short movie).
So, yes, the world's going to shit and Kevin Federline's not helping, but niether is Mike Judge.
Teach your kids to read and we'll be fine.
