I was always a "board" guy, but my freind is from New Zealand where they say "Desk" and now I like that better". I think "Mixer" should be standard for Makies.
What do you call the thing with faders in the middle of the control room?

Mixer, Board Console, or Desk?
2i can't vote. i really use all of them. always "mixer" when talking to people that don't really know much about sound-stuffs. i think i lean towards console as my generally preferred term for anything serious in nature, though i like desk in the same way i like spelling the word grey, or theatre. and it's a "board" if it's being used for live sound reinforcement. so all of them, really.
what about "bussy, knobby, soundamajiggy thing"? anybody else call it that, or is it just me?

3"desk", although i quickly pick up what anyone else around me keeps calling it. i quite like "board" though. nicer to say i guess.

4Desk is pretty standard in the UK, though you hear the others very occasionally.
I like the way you often see 'Soundboard' in conjunction with bootlegging live gigs.
I recently heard some younger kids start referring to valve amps as tube amps. I think this is ridiculous. Must be all those Peavey ads in the tech press.
