4His presence in the line-up, when he should not have been playing, frequently hurt his team on the field. But he didn't care. He was pursuing a personal record.
His lifetime OPS: A pedestrian .788

5It was funny to see this thread after reading about Barry. Ripkin is a pile of Natural Crap.

He's my favorite Philadelphia Phillie.
If I was Cal Ripken, Jr., I would not have broken the consecutive games record. Instead, I would have played in 2,129 consecutive games, and then I would have taken off game 2,130 out of respect for the great Lou Gehrig. It would have been a tip o' the cap for the ages to a man who, after all, only lost his consecutive games streak due to the effects of a disease that is now named after him.
Dude, he's Lou Gehrig.
Anyway, the Orioles weren't in the race by the time that Ripken broke the streak in September 1995, so it wasn't as if they had the season on the line if he didn't play. However, the Orioles were playing the Angels, who were in a battle for the AL West, so maybe the "integrity of the game" required him to play.
Right.

I agree. He's really providing a lot of protection to Ryan Howard in the Phillies' lineup during the playoffs. Ripken's great, so it's no wonder you love the Phillies so much, Mr. McGarvey.
Where would the 2006 Philadelphia Phillies be without Cal Ripken, Jr.?
They'd probably be eating shit with the rest of us losers.
Okay!
Back to MLB on FOX!
