I'll take a guess here and say (as with most things) it's a combination of the two.

I will say it's the "motion of the ocean" or whatever you wanna call it. But I'd bet the smaller your vessel the harder time you'd have finding said motion.

Technique is more important than size, but combining the two will yield a product greater than the sum of its parts. Exponentially. Until the size reaches "painful."

My guess.
