Ry Cooder's music for Paris, Texas. One of the best 3 a.m. albums ever, and Harry Dean Stanton's singing is really ace.

Cooder's score for Southern Comfort is pretty brilliant, too, but there was never a soundtrack album until the Music by Ry Cooder set came out.

I'm not quite the connaisseur, but the one for Paris, Texas is fantastic.

The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Susperia also deserve a mention.
