Hi, i've heard a lot about the intel core 2 duo, do you have any idea when this is coming out on the laptops? and as the intel core duo is very fast anyway, do you know if it will make a real significant improvement? it's the only thing holding me back right now.

Thanks gretz, one thing i didn't mention was my plans to use the laptop live for my pictures and projecting them onto backdrops.

the macbooks I don't think have graphic cards which could make running cubase or pro-tools or other such software... well... impossible.

You can't run photoshop on them either.

I almost but one of the macbooks until i noticed that only the Pro had the graphics card

read this again and realize you make absolutely no fucking sense. A laptop without a video card is worthless.

This is a good site to check: http://buyersguide.macrumors.com. Check out the links to various rumours under each product.

Be aware that an update to the Mac OS is also just around the corner. I was chatting to a guy I know who works for Apple and I wondered out loud whether or not I should wait until the new OS is released before buying a new Mac. He said "that's a very good idea". Make of that what you will, but I think it's generally accepted that, in the case of the Macbook Pro at least, there are going to be significant speed bumps within the next few months.

The Macbooks will run audio software fine, so I'm not sure what Gretz was getting at. Of course, the Macbook Pro will run an app like Logic "better" - you will have more processing power for plug-ins and the like. I currently run Logic on a 5 year old dual 867 G4 desktop and only occasionally hit a wall in terms of processing power, so that should give you some kind of indication of how well a 2Gz Core Duo will handle audio apps.

If you intend to use the computer live to simultaneously play music and project images, then I think it's certainly worth putting down the extra cash for a Pro model.

Why?!?

Interesting reads:

I hate Mac's, but Logic 7 is pretty awesome. I didn't see any good reason to "switch over", just to have some cool things that I couldn't with the PC. I just got the basic MacBook for that stuff and am very happy. Still use the PC as the primary.

When it comes to recording, i've found macs to be easier to use, faster in loading and running programs and generally more reliable than windows. We use only macs at my college too, thats for reason, cubase, logic and pro tools. all my reputed lecturers recommend and use macs themselves.

That first link was very useful indeed, but they're issuing new MBPs now, so if im optimistic i'll be alright for 3 maybe 4 years!
The only "cool things" im looking to use with MBP is simply the mac layout, which i totaly prefer to the windows start button etc.
Don't hate macs, they're the best alternative to the semen of bill gates, that are spread all over the world. :)

Very interesting, and it comes at the perfect time! Why do you like the Mac layout more?

As a primary PC user I see the Mac's dock as Start Button and toolbar in one which is just too much to have go on for me, but I guess it's just foreign. And the File, Edit, etc. stays with window on a pc... there's no way you can not like that? And damn this Safari to hell!

In a Mac's defense the interface definitely looks alot nicer.

There is no escaping Bill Gates, he has pumped a ton of money into Apple.
