Some of the greatest people of all time. I have known them all closely for years. I wish they were still around. Some of my greatest memories of touring were with them. They were mathy, but not in a self-indulgent way. Near the end it bcame much more straight forward though.

12 Hour Turn from Jacksonville were also very Hoover-ish and good. And the Mercury Program from here are fantastic.

i concur.

with a few exceptions, "math rock" is/was a terrrible, terrible fad. funny that a fair number of its practitioners went from playing such sexless dirges to making "dancey" indie rock ala Bloc Party.

i admire such integrity!

Sorry I didn't reply sooner. I was trying to remember a mathy band for Delaware.

Army of Ponch were the rock. Friends from the W.C. area, Apparatus Engine.

Band(s) from delaware:

Rescue the Past
Rescue the Dead--Past but a few years removed and with drum machine.

The band American Heritage from chicago were amazing math rock. are they still around? Pele from wisconsin were kinda of cool, instrumental but not quite mathed the fuck out. I saw Lynx once, and got a cd they put out. Much better live.

Breadwinner was mentioned earlier, so was cancer conspiraracy. Both are great.

Univers Zero, Henry Cow, and Crimson circa 74 are the roots.

If Rush didnt sing and had less solos wouldn't they be the math rock champs?
