Film: The Life Aquatic

I like the way Wes Anderson writes. I think with this movie and also the Tennenbaums he should have reigned it in. Skip a bit, brother! Focus! I know part of what he does is mix the ordinary with the absurd and he can do it with great effect (Rushmore) but come on! Give me a little craft, a little purpose. Don't let any thought that goes into your clever head in to the movie. Shape it a bit, ok?

I see him like a Woody Allen. He has carved out his own way of putting a movie together, creating dialog, etc like Woody did his own way. They both have had very selfindulgent periods and this is Wes' if you ask me.

That said, yes, there are great moments. I think there should be more than a few great moments though.

I like the sound track (or, yeah, mixed tape if you wish) but I am a fan of most of those songs and artists to begin with (Bowie, Nick Drake, Zombies, Stooges, Devo, Scott Walker). Mark Mothersbough could have done his part of this movie in 10 minutes if you ask me. Lucky jerk.

I was again persuaded to "give this movie a shot" so I finally caved in and agreed, despite my reluctance based on trailers and word of mouth alone. I like Wes Anderson, but, as said above, he really, really needs to reign it in. This might be the most "cutesy" film I've ever seen, which I found to be extremely irritating and distracting. The charactars and plot were just unbelieveably hollow, both being composed entirely of cliches. Very disappointing Crap.
There are crispy fries waiting to come out of your oven: you just have to make them and put them there.
