oh, I turn mine off--mostly for environmental reasons. I was at a panel the other day where a hard drive manufacturer noted that the mean failure time for hard drives is something like 50-100 years. He said they like to run. I know some people think the same of high end electronics.

my hard drive has a hangover today, and refuses to spin up, no matter what. got some aspirine and black coffee and now its going strong again.
