...and I have a happenchance encounter and ensuing pleasant conversation with the wife of Dave Hewitt/mother of Ryan Hewitt. Very nice woman. She moved to Doylestown recently and is starting a yoga business here. I figured that might interest some of you folk here since there're alot of recording engineers and such here....Albini included.

Yeah, I've heard that Albini guy is some type of engineer...

It's been whispered that his studio up there on Belmont Ave. is also the homebase of a secret cabal to crash all digital audio reproduction devices. It's been whispered...

even though steve albini has a lot of fame from being a musician, he’s probably best known as being the producer of some legendary albums. nirvana’s “in utero” and jimmy page/robert plant’s “no quarter” just to name a couple.

also, he might have produced the zwan record too but i’m not sure.

He was born in a studio, in a manger woven from 2" Ampex.

hewitt's bio wrote:It is not much of an exaggeration to say that Ryan Hewitt was born in a recording studio; and, at only 31 years of age, this Los Angeles-based producer/mixer/engineer has had a hand in recording some of the biggest names in rock history.

The son of legendary recording engineer Dave Hewitt, Ryan was in and around recording studios before he could reach the faders. It was not long before Ryan discovered an intense curiosity to learn the craft of recording music. Already apprenticing at 12 years old, he assisted in capturing tracks for such talents as Bon Jovi, Pearl Jam and Billy Joel.

---edit---

A new friendship with producer Jerry Finn brought Ryan to San Diego to record blink-182's self-titled platinum release (Geffen), as well as mix several tracks, and later, record the Alkaline Trio's Crimson (Vagrant). Other projects of note include Grammy-Nominated artists Tift Merritt, Robert Randolph and John Frusciante's "6 records in 6 months" series. Ryan's also had the pleasure of working with Phantom Planet, Madina Lake and Motion City Soundtrack.

The year 2006 has been a busy one: in March, Ryan completed work with producer Rick Rubin engineering and mixing The Red Hot Chili Peppers' Stadium Arcadium (Warner Bros.) multi-platinum double album. Continuing with the RHCP family, Ryan mixed an album for Deep Purple alum Glenn Hughes. Glenn's album was co-produced by Chad Smith, who also played drums, along with a guest appearance by his fellow RHCP bandmate John Frusciante on two tracks.

Most recently, Ryan completed mixing the debut single for Atlantic UK band, Fields, "If We Fail", as well as the debut release by The Heavens titled Patent Pending (Epitaph), six tracks for the So-Cal group, Pepper for their debut album No Shame (Lava/Atlantic), mixed Casket Salesman's debut and produced Oslo's upcoming indie release.

Currently, Ryan is mixing Red Hot Chili Peppers' "B" sides for European release.
