These guys have the world by the short hairs.

John C. has a family, so I guess it's Joey that I envy the most.

Suddenly, I am very dissatisfied with my life.

I think Calexico are, undeniably, a very good band.

Do they always tour as just drums and guitar?

I saw them then as a duo which I liked quite a lot. These days they tour as a 6 or 7 piece... The extra guys switch around a lot...upright bass, vibes, trumpets, extra guitars, pedal steel, etc, etc.

As someone who's tried, I can say that it's no mean feat to get that many musicians to leave space. Kudos.

- as a fan of anything morricone-influenced, i find that calexico (up until this most recent album) are an exceptional band. even the aerocalexico and scraping tour-cds are wonderfully done.

- the first time i saw them live was in...02, i think. i met a very pretty girl named allison at the show. you couldn't IMAGINE the sheer volume of beautiful girls that came out to those calexico/iron and wine shows. take the normally hot audience and multiply it by 5 to account for the addition of a fey, whispery oldham-looking indie songwriter guy.

- joey burns is a very nice guy and loves to talk about all things tucson-related. i was lucky and happy to discover last year!

calexico, NOT CRAP.

I'm gonna have to vote CRAP. They seem to get more bland and ball-less with every record. Usually I'm sucker enough for any song with a lapsteel to please me, but not with this dreary malarkey. And whatsmore their "there's a snake in my boot!" Texas schtick is tiresome.

You helped me think of a word for Calexico's music: Fauxrricone.

Saw them last night for the first time at the Taste of Detroit. I've always kind of liked them but their live set won me over.

I wish that the vocals weren't so bland but I like the mix of instruments. The only thing that bugged me was their cover of Alone Again Or. It seems off in the chorus.

They played a few songs from the upcoming album. There was one called "Two Silver (something. trees?)" that was breathtaking. The interplay between the lap steel and glockenspiel in the chorus slayed me. I can't wait to pick it up.
