yes, i did get one...
can't seem to get it to sound good on a snare, but it worked pretty good everywhere else. ill keep it.

13I think it sounds great on a snare. that's the only place I've ever used it.
I too heard the "next sm57" jive. I figured anyone with enough gall to say something like that needed to be tested. that was also during a time when I knew somebody that worked at guitar center. so I payed next to nothing for it.

Yeah, I do...that snare was a piece of shit!
That being said, we tried to use the Audix on it in several different positions and no matter what we did, we weren't able to get a decent sound out of it. We threw a 57 on it, and within a few minutes we were able to get something that we could work with.
Oh, and fuck Mars Volta.

16One great thing about them is that they'll take many a stick hit without disintegrating.
Unlike a 57
For real. What's up with the SM57 being so fragile? They've had all these years to redesign the damn flimsy plastic thing. I work live sound and have seen quite a few 57s meet their maker. And when the capsule doesn't eat it from the stick hit, you have to find that little metal ring to put the thing back together. Those are like gold in the live sound world... very valuable.
To get back to the topic at hand. There's an i5 at my studio. I've only used it on a scatch guitar so far to give it a whirl and I was pleased with it. We're using the scatch track on one of the songs.
If you look at this mic's frequency response, it's definitely not flat. I'm thinking that it would work well on a really midrangy snare because it's scooped in the mids, but that's me looking at a piece of paper and not using my ears.

om-5's for live vocals are great! they also have a good feedback rejection and cause less problems. 58's are pish!
I5's are excellent for guitar and even bass, can also use on percussive instruments!
the d6 is a monster, thats all i have to say!
the d4's are great on bass guitar, floor toms and kick drums, reminiscent of a d112 but better!
cx112 condensers are amazing guitar mics and ive even used them on bass. even better for overheads but do seem to be a tad large.
micro-d's are just clear great little mics that u can put anywhere! sm98 esque.
thier my favourite ones!
Whoa, feels like I'm reading an "article" in Mix Magazine.

Hmm.
You mean for live sound, right?

Yes. Oh, wait...this is a recording thing, isn't it? Sorry...
