" But... MY GIRLFRIEND MADE ME!"

My ex's tastes were decent enough, and that was for about three years. I won't let my best friends listen to music I don't like on my stereo...something about killing myself to pay for my space/stuff, kind of a redneck attitude I guess...

I won't listen to music I don't like. I am forced to do so often enough on the job, so I reserve the right to be an asshole. There is enough bad music in the world without me 'dealing with it' and accidentally giving it some validity.

I do have some Spice Girls CD's I will throw on every once in a while, though...good stuff.

She even purchased a copy of one of his records at a yard sale to leave at my house so "we" could listen to it when she stayed here. I can't tell you how many moments of post-coital bliss were vaccuumed right out of existence when she padded, naked, to the living room and put on Saturate Before Using. The dude's written a couple of decent songs, and he fucked both Nico and Daryl Hannah, but the minute I hear his voice I become a poster boy for Viagra.

I forgot about Ani DiFranco, though her show was hardly as loathsome as Dave Matthews'. I can at least respect what she does.

She also has one of the best asses I've ever seen. The audience members who overheard me pointing this out didn't seem to appreciate the sentiment, despite doubtlessly agreeing with me.

Once time my mom got the free tickets to see Ani DiFranco at the fabulous Fox Theatre in Saint Louis - they were her company's box seats, so I says sure I will go along for the ride. Why not? I enjoy an excuse to be in the the fabulous Fox Theatre, no matter the occasion...

Maceo Parker opened up the show, and his band was really excellent!

Ani came out on stage towards the end of their set and they did some stuff together - including Sly Stone's "Sing A Simple Song" - this was also REALLY good!

I started getting my hopes up about this Ani DiFranco - maybe she would somehow turn out to be better than my expectations?

I won't give her headlining performance a flat-out 'CRAP' or anything like that - but you could say that I was pretty underwhelmed.

Also, even though we had just previously seen a full band with horns and everything, when Ani and her pals started playing, they were the ones who really put the hurt on our ears. That soundman really wrenched it up beyond levels of 'fun' for Ms. Headliner.

One time, the other guitar player in my band went and saw Guster with his awful, awful girlfriend and came back saying that it wasn't so bad. I think he might have even used the word "good" at one point. This is a guy who I can't get to listen to anything...hates stuff like Bob Dylan, Neil Young...and...I don't know, it's very painful to talk about. He likes like...This Heat and stuff! How the hell could he say that shit?? I should ask him about it now that they're long broken up.

The only lame thing I was ever dragged to was Aimee Mann. Could be worse.
